Lots have been calling for it - well today we got to see him there after Amos went off. I thought he showed some nice touches and put in one or two tasty tackles ... but I think a CM is a priority for next season.

Hard to judge him in there today as his form was way off.

For what it's worth I thought he played some nice passes but also got too far forward, as feared. Got caught rotten when BOS's pass to him was poor. Took Masterson to stop a shot on target from the resulting breakaway.

Way off today. Him, Hugill and Amos were really below par.

I’m still not sure what Amos’ par is.

It's a shame with Amos because Preston away was really encouraging from him.

From what I just witnessed I'd say Manning wants out.

Terrible from him to his own standards.
Passing was awful, didn't bite into challenges and gave the ball away time after time after time

Having said that he was head and shoulders above Amos the friendly ghost.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

I gave both a 4/10.
Hugill got 3.

I can't remember the last time I went below 5.

I quite like him at left back but haven’t seen enough of him in the middle to comment. I think left back is probably his best position. Time will tell on that but I wish he would stay on his feet a bit more, it’s costing us at times as refs have wised up to it. Thought he was pretty poor today.

Amos first 20 minutes were absolutely godawful, tho tbf, he improved as the half progressed

He’s a perplexing one though. Below average defensively, but also doesn’t really make the team tick going forward

It’s hard to identify what he does well

Manning was shambolic. As was Rangel, especially in the first half.

I'll freely admit that I don't get the huge attraction with Manning. I think he's positioning, tackling and fitness need work, I think he lacks toughness and isn't blessed with height or pace. His set-pieces are decent and he can really pick a pass, but I'm not sure that's enough.

There's a reason so many teams target him.

I think people are being overly harsh on Manning. He had a bad game, but I wouldn’t question his effort or application. He just was really sloppy and gave the ball away. He also had a few nice moments, including his touch line link up with Eze right before he played a curling through ball to hugill....Manning was taking chances and therefore was entitled to make some of the mistakes he made

Rangel rly had no excuse for giving the hall away so much in the first half.... it should also be noted that his inability to get forward was a massive liability and played into Barnsley’s tactic of double teaming bright, which reduced brights effectiveness (not a criticism at all of Bright who played 1 v 2 basically all match).... To me, that mistake is on Warburton, not Rangel. Rangel is 37.... kane should’ve been brought on much earlier. The quasi diagonal runs that kane makes from just inside the halfway line towards the middle of the park would’ve helped isolate Bright more on the right flank. Why did MW wait until the 80th minute to make that change? He should’ve come on at the same time as the ball/Wallace sub.

I’m not a fan of Manning at LB as he can’t defend, LWB he could get away with it but not at LB. I liked him at CM under Holloway but I wonder if he’s too left footed to play there permanently. He could be an option to replace Eze in the attacking 3 as his delivery from our wide is his strength and he signed as an attacking midfielder/number 10.

I agree. I like Ryan but if we got offered money I would sell. I will get shot down for this but watch this season back and I reckon 7 out of 10 passes go astray.

I think Mannng is overrated, and today he was poor by even his standards. But he was involved in the game, which is more than can be said of Chair.

Chair
Amos

All poor today.

BOS and Shodipo the only ones worth a mention

I second that. Everyone else was either well below par or out and out poor today.

And I include the management in that.

I believe that match was played in the context that the Management wanted to put any chance of the play offs out of the question. I mean what would happen if that team got promoted? It would cost a fortune to get that team up to any sort of standard. The inevitable relegation would play havoc with the finances. I believe the club has set its sites on being a mid table selling team for many a season to come.

I agree with that except the many season to come bit. Promotion when we're ready.

Early days, but Ball was pathetic today, but it's early days. I still believe Chair is a player we need in the centre, an upgrade on Scowen in that position if you will.
