I'm not too fed up after today's game but it did throw up a number of questions to which I'm not sure I have the answers.
Did today's experimental line up and formation succeed in any way?
Why can't we counter attack at pace like Brizzle did today?
What can be done about the poor set piece deliveries we often produce?
Why can't we score first more often?
I'm sure we'll come good but there's still work to be done to make this team play to its full potential. |  | | |  |

Another day we win that 4-1 and they could have no complaints. Horrible, typical Pearson shitehouse team who just couldn’t believe their luck at the end. Regardless, we really should have put then away second half - Dykes twice and Charlie really should have scored and every time the ball bounced around in their area, it somehow fell to one of them.
Just feel that as they had nobody of the quality of Willock, Stef and Chair, then the latter two should have done a bit more than they did. Willock was great, though. |  | | |

Fair play to Bristol City, most teams sit back and let us try and score late. They were very passive for most of the game, but came out of their shell with ten to go and tried (improbably but successfully) to win the game. Their number 3 was a real upgrade, must have been a good reason he didn’t start. We should have been out of sight though. |  | | |

Massengo is a class player and tormented us for much of the game. Without him they weren't scoring their first goal and he was not only creative, he also harried our back line coming out of defence. Having said that he cost £7 million as a 19 year old.
I genuinely think it was one of those days. They managed to block a lot of shots, their goalie made some exceptional saves and our players had some sharp chances that just happened to be near the goalie. On another day, one of Willock's attempts would have curled in, Charlie's shot would have been either side of the goalie rather than straight at him, Jordy's header would have been the right side of the post and Nahki Well's shot wouldn't have hit the exact foot that it needed to to both get round Dieng and creep in the far post.
If we'd scored a second, they're much less likely to come back.
I'm amazed though at people wanting to tear the whole game plan up because of a couple of losses, one of which was to the top side away and both of which could have gone either way. |  | | |

Not sure I understand this. I think the formation worked in every way except our ability to put the ball in the back of the net?
And as for set pieces, we've scored tons from then this year, especially the creative routines?
Agree with the sentiment around counter attack we just aren't set up for that (if Gray gets back to 100% that may help) and definitely agree that the fact we can't score first is infuriating, especially in games like yesterday when we are well on top |  | | |

Like others, I'm happy to write off that results as slightly freakish - I say slightly because without another defensive midfielder we were always running the risk of being caught on the break. Overall, though, taking the risk worked as we created a shedload of chances.
I thought it was a cracking game and I've rarely enjoyed a defeat so much. |  |

I'm very reluctant to praise any player that goes after EVERY challenge.
Ref had the measure of it 1st half, but let him get away with a few to many 'soft ones' in the 2nd half I thought. |  | | |

Agree 100%.
I was there and, while it was a sickening ending, it was a very good match and we played some great stuff at times. We just have to take more of our chances.

The formation had Johansen playing the DCM role with Chair and Willock either side of him further up but deeper than they usually play. This meant they were less able to perform those clever interplays on either side of the oppo's penalty area that often opens up the defence. It was good at times but I'm not convinced it got the best out of Chair and Willock.

Despite the attractive football I don't think we've actually been that good this year to date. By that, I mean that whilst we can control possession we don't control games. We rarely look like keeping a clean sheet and don't seem to have the nous to kill games off or score whilst on top. We've relied upon Dickie to rescue us, goals from McCallum more recently, and clever set-pieces at Hull. For all our lovely passing it doesn't seem to produce much end product.
Our attacks seem to consist of passing side-to-side zig-zagging our way up the pitch giving the opposition time to get men behind the ball. We then do intricate passing in front of them which bring the risk of a slightly misplaced pass giving the ball away and the opposition breaking on us. Occasionally, the zig-zagging sideways passing gets caught out by the high press (Bournemouth) and we also have a habit of not tracking late runs into the box. Teams will piece these things together and know how to play against us, if they haven't already.
We need to move forward at pace, I know we no longer have Eze and BOS to do that but I'm sure Chair and Willock could make a better fist of it and we may have to look at how we attack teams in future because the balance isn't quite there at the moment. |  |

When I saw the teamsheet, I was a bit concerned that we'd be picking up the shattered fragments Johansen's confidence sometime around the 20th minute. However, I am usually wrong about these things and it seems I maintained my streak yesterday.
I can't help feeling that if Amos or Field had been ready, we wouldn't have seen that starting XI yesterday. God knows I love Dom Ball - let's face it, he plays like any one of us would if we won a game for the Rs - but Field or Amos both offer different qualities that may have nullified some of Bristol's midfield threat, if only by contesting the ball slightly higher up the park. They'll be available again soon, so time will tell.
An interesting selection by Warbs but let's have it right: the QPR flamethrower was excellent and huge fun to witness in full flow! |  |
