And that's why... 12:11 - Apr 30 with 1679 viewsMyke

...it is regrettably time for a change. Undoubtedly Warburton has incrementally left us in a better place than we were 3 years ago. Unfortunately, we appeared to have plateaued and he seems to lack the tactical nous to out think and out manoeuvre other managers /teams. Once other teams figured us out and pressed us high and aggressively,to stop us playing out from the back we had no other ideas except to pass it around the back until we either knocked it long and aimlessly or coughed up possession with a poor pass.
Warburton in his 'hard to keep my temper' comments, blamed it squarely on injuries. Without question we have been decimated by injuries, but we are not alone in that. SU's entire strike force is absent, but still they are where they are. The malaise had set in before all the injuries had. and he seemed uncapable of stopping it. As someone said on the match thread, last night's game was a microcosm of our entire season ; good enough for the first half despite a few close calls, but no answer when the going got tough.
Thanks Mark for three memorable seasons, let's hope your successor can continue your excellent work.

..you may be right on a lot of that, but to compare injuries to our squad with the depth we have to Sheff U and Stoke is unfair. They have more resources than us because that means more wages. Our first 11-15 can compete, beneath that we are threadbare. Our reserves are probably what will keep us midtable at best.

Six GK injured and four WBs at the same time is unprecedented... We also had periods with no fit strikers...

It has been pretty unusual...

Can we go out yet?
Poll: What would you take for Willock if a bid comes this month?

Without a doubt, the goalkeeping situation alone must put us in the Guinness Book of Records. My point I suppose, is that Warburton is keen to blame the ENTIRE collapse on injuries. Injuries only affect us in terms of absenteeism, is does not explain the chronic loss of form of the players on the pitch, or things like not defending set-pieces properly, or some very unusual team selections. Even when we had a full quota of players we lost a couple of games in December, as he seemed unsure of his starting 11 when everybody was available.
Over the three years Warburton has done a fine job on a shoestring. However, I felt one of his comments last night was telling. Not a direct quote, but something along the lines of; when Sheffield United upped the ante in the second half, we couldn't match them. Was it not on him to (attempt at least) to stem the tide? It seemed like an admission that he had no answer to SU's second half onslaught. Heckingbottom on the other hand, said the half-time team talk was 'easy' because the solution was 'obvious' - and so it proved.

I am very grateful for what Warburton has done and we could be making a mistake, but I can see why the decision was made. Only time will tell I guess.

Not getting the basics right, and continually making the same mistakes...have been his undoing. Whether the players aren't all that, or couldn't understand what he was telling him...is open to debate. I'm still in a state of shock over how we have folded😱 More will come out in time I'm sure.

Would have given him another year.
Didn't reflect well on our hierarchy in the way he was let go. Poor.

I agree,to continually come out for weeks and say we're not moving the ball quick enough and then it's exactly the same in the next game is odd. He does realise have influence that?
