This is what I've been banging on about over the last few weeks, and why I'm so positive about this season. Given how long Illy's been here, I think his comments about GA's approach in comparison to the previous managerial incumbents is particularly noteworthy.

It's a nice interview and I'm sure Chair believes in what he's said. He has always been positive about QPR, regardless of what's going on, but there can be no doubt that this will be a very, very difficult season for us. Survival is the number one objective.
I can see what Ainsworth is trying to achieve in terms of the culture at the club and, as I said elsewhere on here, he'll be banking on a "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts" approach. It's all he can do really. |  | | |

It’s a good interview. But at the same time these are the same interviews that get pumped out with every single manager and this is no different. What he specifically says is the focus on the togetherness, which is a first for him. That’s a nod to Ainsworth and a good thing. But players always talk up the camp, the training etc with the usual platitudes every pre season.
Far more revealing for me was Ilias’ co-commentary at the weekend where he seemed to forget he was not just talking to a mate. Paul Smyth tried to play it down in response. Of particular note “I hate it when people say well done, great shift. That’s the basics. Talk to me about what I did on the ball. Great shift, duh, I hate it”. And unfortunately that also seems a nod to Ainsworth. | | | |

This is where the whole area of emotional intelligence becomes so important.
You establish a cultural foundation as they have been focusing on so heavily in Austria, and you make it so tangible, new arrivals can literally feel the atmosphere as soon as they arrive at Heston before you even start specifically laying out the ground rules that the newcomers will be expected to adhere to.
There's no doubt that Ainsworth and Dobson made this a cornerstone of their recruitment policy at Wycombe, and they've obviously got targets in mind now for us this season who they know will embrace the priorities and values that they've identified as their "non-negotiables". That will make the whole process of integrating arrivals into the new squad envrionment as seamless as possible, and should also help them settle quickly. | | | |

Oh how would have loved interviews with Gerry Francis et all once or twice per week.
Now when we have these interviews comments are just another puff piece.
Players have come out and said how poor things were last season and how they are all trying to improve. Wouldnt you?

Worst case scenario is we get relegated. Not great, but not disastrous in the greater scheme of things.'
We have an ownership who has gone above and beyond to create a brand new environment which shows commitment to the long-term health of the club, we have a management team who care passionately about being successful at the club and have already made several proactive steps to create a new culture , we have a young playing squad that the management team are proactively trying to develop, and that could be the foundation of the squad for the next few years - continuity we haven't had at the club for far too long a time.
At the end of the day, what really matters is that the club exists for future generations to enjoy and support. What does or doesn't happen this season is realtively unimportant when set in that context, isn't it? | | | |

Management team and culture positives, agreed, but like the community side of the club, all of that is secondary to FIRST TEAM RESULTS as that is the currency of success in this profession.
The Young Playing Squad is SH1TE. No amount of buttering up or polishing or diversion or any other way of looking at it. None of them have set their loans on fire and none of them at any level worth talking about. Even playing against other poor Academies and B Teams, they barely held their own. They won a couple of cup matches, which is better than the first team, admittedly, but they can't even beat other kids' teams. They are not the "great hope" you seem to think. You play this bunch of kids in this league and we will get the lowest points total the Championship has seen.
The "continuity" that will give us will be a team that loses consistently and habitually. We stick with them for 2-3 years and they will ensure that the club finds their level, which will be at least two leagues below this one.
The club continues to lose money hand over fist and needs to stem that flow by reducing playing budgets even more - necessary, but because of our wonderful recent recruitment and development structure, we have no-one coming through the ranks who is anywhere near decent Championship Standard.
We have the same back four and midfield that conceded over 70 goals last season and have lost key players from that crap set up. Three weeks before the season and no-one new to get used to organising the rabble that will be in front of them.
I'd love some of your happy pills, E15, but the signs are all there - I am all for promoting the youth if they are good enough; this lot aren't. GA and Dobbo need to recreate their Wycombe miracle and much of our fanbase (me included) can't buy into it all just yet. Five games in when we have lost all FIVE (a VERY strong possibility) my love for Gareth is going to start slipping when he comes out with reasons to be positive and why we need to understand why we are so crap, but we're all in it together and we have to get together to help this sub-standard team not go to pieces when they are getting crushed.
Or, actually, it isn't bad, we might go down, but we'll go down fighting with this fine bunch of young men supported to the hilt by a bunch of blokes who will cheer and support them all through the bad times and will look forward to doing the same next season.
Something HAS to change - maybe the attitude and togetherness IS genuine and that is great, but this bunch of players is at least 8 players off competing just to stay up.

I think we need a CEO and a DOF who can really grab the club by the scruff of the neck and be better in every single department from ticketing to social media
This malaise and throw our hands up in the air because of FFP needs stop other clubs with much smaller budgets have overtaken us
We don't need to go back to 1980's Wimbledon football to be competitive either as to me it's further evidence the club has given up . | | | |

Sadly, I'd say this is all pretty uncontroversial. Can't see where the goals are coming from, or how we'll keep them out. Right now, I'd lump money on this season being at least as bad as most of the last one. |  |
