Really enjoyed reading that. We definitely don’t support QPR for the glory, but by Christ, we do enjoy our glory moments.
Supporting QPR isn’t fun the majority of the time. But when we have a special season or moments in seasons, it makes it all worthwhile.
Sure, I’d love us to win trophy after trophy like what Liverpool did in the 70s & 80s, or Man Utd in the 90s & 00s and those lot down the road did for a spell since the dodgy Russian money.
Those fans look down on supporters like us, but moments like our play off final win mean much more to people like us than those tossers winning a league or cup.

I think were probably around the same time Clive.
I don't remember the opponents, but my first game was standing in the lower loft. I was a kid, and we definitely scored more than one, as I remember clearly being lifted off my feet and deposited many feet away from where I was originally standing, more than once. It was frightening, but exhilarating.
Another early memory of mine was sitting in the Ellerslie Road stand, probably T block, halfway up... I waited until it went relatively quiet, and I shouted 'Willow!' at my favourite player, and he looked right at me. I was made up with that.
I've been in the paddock when Terry Phelan for Citeh ran over to collect the ball for throw-in, and someone asked him if he wanted a joint... everyone laughed, including me - although I had no idea what they were talking about.
Trevor's overhead v Barnsley, I was in the loft end and it looked from distance like he leapt 50ft in the air. I hugged a steward.
I remember watching Mike Sheron from X block, and being just amazed at how poo he was. It was the same game (I think), where Tony Roberts let a simple catch go through his hands into the net...
South Africa Road stand looking down on some Millwall fans at half time as they were spitting with rage and obscenities whilst I stroked my QPR shirt and smiled... before getting a bit worried that would find me after and beat me up. I'm sure I've said this before but we must be very similar ages. We used to sit in Pu when I was a kid and witnessed most of those events at LR (the exception being Sinclairs overhead kick). Remember having to stand on my seat to watch Wilson score that pen against Millwall then nearly falling off when he scored. That semi-final goal is still my favourite moment at LR.
It used to be fun (and affordable) my dad used to drive us there from Medway so it was Danny Baker on the radio in the car, fish and chips then into the ground (no pub for him poor sod). It's been a hard watch recently and I say that as an occasional attendee for home matches, so hats off to season ticket holders and away support. Hopefully we've turned a corner now and it can be fun again. |  | | |

Same-ish age here albeit my hairline continues to fight the good fight - currently 2-2 late in the second half but losing the battle.
I agree wholeheartedly about Oldham being the best game I've ever been to and how difficult it is for fans of other teams to understand. Having also been there for Sinclair, Zamora goals and victories over Chelsea, Liverpool etc (and listening to Port Vale 4-4 on the radio!), still nothing quite matches that outspilling of emotion. I was half way up P Block that night and when I finally came to my senses after Furs' goal I found I'd climbed up the fencing between P and Q Blocks like a madman.
Also don't forget Chrissy Day's save after that goal. Still one of the most magnificent saves I've ever seen. What a night! Always brings me out in goosebumps. |  |

Very much my era too. Those years in what's now called league one and our first two back in this division with Ollie were my upper 6th and university years and the period when I visited a lot of away grounds for the first time. That promotion season gave us and Plymouth one of the best-natured rivalries ever, ever so slightly marred by a Plymouth fan spitting at me outside of the Loftus Road box office before a home game during probably the John Gregory or Paulo Sousa era.
Anyway I have been looking forward to this and even more so the away game ever since our Championship survival was comfirmed last season. That away game, even though we lost, and watched them celebrating the title was a great day out, partly due to the excellent performance of referee Paul Durkin. I don't believe there's been a referee of his calibre in this country since he retired. |  | | |

My best footballing mate was a magical man called Rob Partridge, head of press at Island records. Originally from Plymouth he moved opposite the Crown and Sceptre in the 70's and did what we all say is sacrilege and changed allegiances to the R's. Became a fanatic, we went home and away together in his BMW with the best music playing. When we first played Plymouth after many years I saw him go through emotional turmoil, but he rooted for the hoops. He died of cancer years back. I will think of him tonight. That was a great read. Remember many of those occasions. My personal fave was probably Clive Allen's goal in the semi final at Highbury in 82. We were at the back of the North Bank before it went in; found ourselves practically at the front seconds later!
