Anatomy of a fall – Report on 09:43 - Dec 18 with 5910 viewswestberksr

I think you've summed up what we were all thinking..... concentrate last week on the 2 six pointers and run the risk of a battering in the next 2 games. could have been almost comfortable today, instead a huge dose of 'what might have beens' doing the rounds

Bad planning by Marti and hopefully he'll learn from that.

oh..... great report too

Went to see Stewart Lee in London with the missus and just before sitting down to a pre gig meal seen that we had gone one up. Happy days I thought and cut all media ties until the meal had finished. Looked at my phone to see we had lost 2.1. Wasn’t in the mood for the gig after that .
QPR f**king up weekends since 1882.

We passed the ball too slowly against Plymouth as well , It was like a kids game where the grass is too long, you can almost count the revolutions of the ball.

Quite, and an excellent report - as ever, it's the hope that kills, and even a point I wouldn't have minded that much. Had a few pre-Christmas jollities lined up and instead stayed at home definitely feeling that 'they've killed my dog' feeling. Thanks team.

I think going into last week 4 points from those 3 games was a decent return but would have been better to beat Plymouth and draw with Sheff wed after losing to Hull, typical Rangers and all that

Doesn't hurt to be reminded we're not very good and staying up is still going to be a hell of an achievement this season which i think we have a decent chance of doing still

Saying all that to lose a game when you are 1 up with 5 minutes to go is piss poor

Going into this run of Hull, Plymouth, Sheff Wed and Southampton, I thought I'd be v happy with 7 points from 12. We should have had 9, have only got 4, and have one game to go to reach the total.
Southampton were lucky to beat us down there, and are long overdue losing a game, let's see if I'll be happy or a very sad boy over christmas.

Bare bones.

On the Field chance and the fact that he has missed the same chance 3 times in recent games, he should be putting those away. However, it is a positive that he is now getting into those positions more often although I fear it will be playing on his mind now that he should have scored 3 goals since Marti arrived and hasn't scored any of them.

Spot on, Clive. Excellent report.

The Barry Bannon thing was galling. he's 34. Make him feel it. Run him. Bash him. Bad-rash him. Make him feel 34. Make him wonder if it's worth it all. Make him think about a year-round deck chair in the Algarve.

But, no, stand off him. let him run the show. Again.

We went to man-marking him at one stage, I thought, with EDB on him. And that seemed to quiten him. Then when we took Dozzell off for Cook we needed EDB to go back on general midfield duties and Bannon took over again. Choices.

One thing we missed was the ability to bring Larkeche on and move Paal into midfield which seems to have worked well in recent games. Ideally, when Dozzell came off we needed another midfielder to come on and play higher up the pitch.

Yep, classic Rangers. And a big reality check on this bunch of players.

On the face of it the subs made sense - and yes bring on Cook to close the game out but it sounds like that just made us drop deeper and brought on the inevitable. Given the few minutes Smyth had against Plymouth you'd have thought he could have played the full 90 here and kept them honest with his pace.

Sigh.

The constant fouling and giving away free kicks and receiving yellow cards is really starting to grind my gears. Smyth is another one that just can't help himself. if tracking back and chasing a full back, it will invariably end in a free kick to the opposition in a dangerous area. I cannot believe this issue is never discussed with the team during analysis sessions.

Cifuentes now knows what he has deal with as the honeymoon period is well and truly over. Drastic surgery is required to cut out the malaise and ineptitude that exists amongst some of this squad.

Apart from Dykes for Armstrong, who was anonymous after 3rd minute, every sub made us worse. Willock had 1 of those games where you almost forget he was on the pitch. EDB got switched too often to be truly effective.
Even so, if Field finds some minge around it, we win comfortably.

2 poor teams serving meagre Championship gruel.

Happy Christmas, everyone.

Willock did a couple of good things going forward but seems to have gone backwards in the last 2 games. He just looked off the pace again.

Great report as ever, hard to disagree with any of it.

Only slight quibble, but neither here nor there in the grand scheme of things, but I thought JCS was very good Saturday and possibly deserving a slightly higher mark.

Hugely disappointing afternoon.

Apart from for Wee Barry Bannon - as he contractually should be called. Thought he was superb, as always, and partly because we allowed him to be

Bannon was by far their best player and we gave him far too much time and space in the 2nd half

Thats strange, I know a few Wednesday fans and they all say he pretty much holds together a very limited team.
