Armstrong’s now scored good goals against Bournemouth and Leicester who are two of the better teams we’ve faced this season. I know he’s very raw at times but he’s 20 years old and I like his hunger which sometimes turns into frustration.
Plenty to work on but he’s got potential to be an important player for us next season. We need to get him signed up on a longer contract. |  | | |

It was a hell of a hit! Wham bam, pick that out. Celebrations were a bit OTT though, I thought the ref was going to book him because he took so long to get up off the floor when everyone else was ready to go.
He got a lot of unfair stick after that in the away end for not charging around every ball being played back toward the Leicester defence - unfair because he'd clearly been told by Marti to stay where he was and help the whole team keep in shape - not charge off after the ball, get turned and then have one less player behind the ball as Leicester break forward. Did his job well, people in the stands sometimes need to engage brains more. |  | | |

It's shame that later on Sinclair chose to pass to Chair instead of driving towards goal when clean through. Having been buoyed by his goal, I fancied him to net a brace.

I remember Alan Wilkes coming on as a sub at Arsenal in 1968 when we had a corner & scoring with his header from that kick.

To be fair I was one of those people who wanted him to press their keeper, because he was clearly uncomfortable on the ball. But someone explained to me why he shouldn’t do it, and I shut up about it.

I don't think he bottled it. He headed to the corner to ensure that Leicester had no time to get the ball back and attack for a final time. Completely unselfish work. That's how I saw it anyway [Post edited 3 Mar 2:43]

That was a completely different passage of play. You're referring to the final seconds of the match when Sinclair took it into the corner. That was a good decision. We're referring to an earlier phase where he found himself through on goal with a chance to make it 3-1 and kill the game. He lacked the confidence to take it on so he passed to Chair instead who duly shot wide. [Post edited 3 Mar 3:23]

I thought the same, seemed to take a long time to realise he was on side, then passed it too early when he could have driven forward and released chair after drawing the defender to him, or taken it himself. |  | | |

My Sinclair observations were:
Brilliant goal, fantastic with first touch, so pleased for him.
I also couldn't understand why he wasn't closing down in his usual belligerent fashion after that, but as posted above must have been a Marti directive. And it worked.
Showed signs of growing maturity with the pass to Chair rather than shooting at the end, and most importantly going for the corner in the last play.
Only downtick for me is the celebrations. Don't mind the passion with the first wave of celebration, but his second wave of antics, done when all his teammates have left to go back to the centre circle, was a bit OTT and just winds up the opposition and fans, especially when the game is still clearly in the balance. Am sure Marti will put a stop to it.
My other thoughts from the game:
> best away support in terms of noise, humour and size that I have been in for quite a while

But if Chair had scored (as he arguably should have) we’d all be saying well done Armstrong. For me it was a 50:50 decision and I can see why Armstrong went with the pass after Blackburn away when he was rightly castigated by his teammates for not passing when in a similar position.
I actually thought it showed maturity and improving awareness to look up, see the more technically gifted Chair and release the ball rather than going for glory as we’ve seen him do earlier in the season without much success. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s something Marti has been working on with Armstrong. [Post edited 3 Mar 9:03]

Really, Armstrong should have run at them, then if, as I suspect, the oppo closed in on him, he then needs to either shoot if it's a clear shot or, more likely, play Chair in as he's drawn the Leicester defenders to him.
He played Chair in too early at that point as he had not run at them a bit more. However, he did not lose the ball, and Chair should have taken his man on as well. Big let off for Leicester that.
But in the end, it did not matter; hopefully, they learn and next time, they get it right. Better they learn in a match we win and then get it right in a match we need it, than in some loss to Millwall or some such. |  |

Having rewatched the highlights I think this is probably about right. Leicester defender took up a good position and if Armstrong runs into the space I think the defender steps across to block the run. But it would’ve opened up more space for Chair which would’ve allowed Armstrong to slip him in.
I still think it’s an improvement on Blackburn away when Armstrong found himself in similar situations and gave the ball away. | | | |
