Neither getting a game at the moment, both have been on the bench for the past 2 games.

Good enough for the Championship?

I can't imagine a division that Ferdinand's good enough. As for Ale, he wouldn't be the first footballer who has had to effectively restart his career after a broken leg - he'll be okay in the end.

It wasn't a broken leg, it was an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury, which is far more serious than a break. It shouldn't be career threatening but it could mean he never reaches the level he was at before the injury.

Regardless of the injury, Ale's situation at Palermo is as follows:

Arrives, plays the first match, has a great first half, makes a mistake in 2nd half which leads to a goal for the opposition, Palermo lose that match.

Couple of days later, they sack the manager who approved Ale's move.

Couple of days later, they sack the football director who brought Ale there.

Couple of days later, they bring a new coach.

This new coach doesn't play him. Palermo don't win any of the matches since Ale arrived. They are in deep relegation trouble.

Fair to say it's a horrible situation for him and for his teammates. A bit like when he was at QPR, no?

I've also noticed that Ale's tweets make him sound like he's down in the dumps:EG

"Never give up. great things take time"

"Stay strong, make them wonder how you're still smiling"

"life is so much better when you stop caring about what everyone thinks and start to actually live for yourself"

Compare to when he was still at Rangers:

"happy birthday to Wayne Routledge. Have a good one brother enjoy!!!"

"No individuals. I'm happy to be on the bench. I wanna play every single minute. Keep fighting

Sounds to me like he's depressed and we would have been better off loaning him out locally rather than sending him so far away. A real shame

I imagine there's a vast difference between feeling sorry for yourself and actually having depression.

All he has to do is wait out the undoubted relegation confirmation and with a bit of luck in his case, the departure of Redknapp (to Chelase maybe?) and he'll be back here tweeting Routledge and the boys before you can say. "Have a good one son".

Would have Ali back in a heart beat, still believe he is good enough for the Premier league let alone the Championship.

Spot on

In any case its not Faurlin's fault that footballers get paid a lot. He's never, to my knowledge, touted himself about to try to bump up his wages, put in transfer request, refused to sign a contract extension or similar. If he's a top footballer then naturally he wants to play and is going to get down if he's injured or dropped or in a bad run of form. The fact that any player of his ability is going to be on money beyond my dreams is irrelevant - unless of course he really is a mercenary who has no pride in his performance or team spirit. Where's the evidence for that?

Why did this thread degenerated into this?

What has money have to do with this?

Why is there this belief that Ale is such a big earner and why do I never hear about other players' wages? Players that have never given us good/great performances in exchange?

Do you expect a player to be happy if he doesn't play at his club, gets sent to another and finds a situation as difficult as the one he was living before making the move?

Gazza was still a good player after his injury but IMO but never was at the level he was prior to his injury. Crucially he lost about a yard of pace.
