Ah, yeah, we're back in the Big League now, so we're supposed to give a brown one about these teams, aren't we???

Been cooped up with any Leeds fans recently, Brighton???

Can we go out yet?

Oops. Not happy are they! And to their local rivals too.

Definitely 1 nil to NUFC here - looked like a really decent player over the last part of the season.

Good signing for Newcastle.
I don't get how Colback could sign for Sunderland at 8 years of age, play for them for 12 years or whatever..and still support their main rivals Newcastle, surely they beat that kind of thing out of them. ? He must of got pelters for years. Tough ginger geordie..

That's pis poor on the player's part. Paul Cooke Hull Fc-Hull KR all over again. No wonder the modern day sportsman has a lousy reputation.

He's extremely strawberry blonde isn't he - guess he couldn't move further south for fear of suns rays. Touch of the Sol Campbells but without the chance for honours...

....and if Sunderland had sold him for Millions, that't all right then. It is supposed to be a professional sport. We know all about loyalty if anyone does.

I could count loyal footballers on one hand.

Its a business now - nothing more than that.

(And I renewed my St and will continue to do so. Loyalty is in the stands only!)

Dont know why we bother. .... but we do!

He's a player I'd have liked us to go for, but looks like he was always going to end up at Newcastle.

Whenever I have seen him live he hasn't impressed. Going to The Toon is piss poor though.

Hang on, he supports Newcastle. If I was a kid and got picked up by Fulham or somebody, and then one day QPR came along and asked me to join, that would be that. It's not as if he has not given 100% when on the pitch, or played every position in the team at some point at the requst of the management.

I would choose to play for QPR over anybody else, ANYBODY. I am really surprised by that statement from the club, I think it's unprofessional TBH.

It's got to be different for a Professional footballer though, buisness. Firstly you wouldn't have supported the club for as long, got picked up at like 9/10 I think. So that's the majority of his life at Sunderland. Than their obvious investment, nurturing and part played in raising him to a certain extent should factor in.

I can understand why it would be different for some people, Carragher is a good example, Everton lad that got picked up by Liverpool and ended up staying and becoming a legend there. But you don't know how much ewcastle means to Colback, he could have a whole Newcastle mad household, he could have all his mates with ST to St James Park. What does it matter where you 'work' when it comes to YOUR team?

Say if Kevin Gallen had stayed at Watford or wherever we got him from, and came through and played for them until he was 24, would anybody blame him if QPR came along and took him at that point? He's QPR mad, as are all his family, its a realisation of a boyhood dream to play in front of LR in a QPR shirt, the same way it would have been mine and is obviously Colbacks for Newcastle.

Fck Sunderland. They would have got a fee for him if they didn't let his contract run down to nothing

I'm not sure what he's done wrong. He was out of contract and chose to go somewhere else. OK it's a pain and not good for a club to lose a young player they invested in but they knew the risk of letting a young player or any player go into the last year of his contract without renewing it. They would have done exactly the same as Newcastle if roles were reversed and probably have done plenty of times before

Sunderland quote they met his demands and his agent put the Club off negotiations until the end of the season....

“This wasn’t about money - the club agreed to all of the terms demanded of us during discussions and we were always led to believe that Jack wanted to stay with us. At his and his representatives’ request, final talks were put on hold until the club secured its top flight status. To our dismay however, we were subsequently never given the chance to negotiate with him to stay.

“For him to then leave the club that has supported him throughout his formative years in such a manner, with no chance for Sunderland to recover any of the significant investment that it has made in him as a player, has left a bitter taste."

They may have met his demands but he is still allowed to look at other options, seems a bit over the top from Sunderland. I'd agree it's not fair they get no money for him but that's not Colbacks fault thats the daft rules these clubs all agreed to

That is true, I'm changing my mind on this after finding out he is a massive Newcastle fan. Perhaps he could have done it in a better way but that is life I suppose.

Ha.
Players and managers are as loyal as clubs are towards players and managers.
If Colback wasn't much good and still had two years to run on a decent contract that he decided to wait out because he loved the club, he'd be branded as greedy and a drain on the club's resources.
Cowardly, cry-baby, hypocritical cr@p from Sunderland.

Bare bones.

And if he was a youth player and didn't make it they'd drop him without any trace of 'loyalty' despite the fact he'd played with Sunderland since he was 8. Their 'siginificant' investment has meant they've got over 100 first team appearances out of him, grow up Sunderland. Live by the sword die by the sword.
