system is a joke ,there should be a house of wisdom to make sure stupid/evil/wrong things happen but instead we have a system where each government stuffs there own people in to make sure they get all their laws though good and bad
they should cap it at say 400 and only be able to put new ones in to replace ones who die retire or are convicted of a crime |  |

British politics is increasingly surreal. As was pointed out in yesterday's FT, the only bigger assembly in the world is the Chinese People's Congress:
The new arrivals will take the upper house to about 830 members, further expanding the second-biggest legislative chamber in the world – surpassed only by the 2,987 of the National People’s Congress in China.

That's a good point, although it might be better to call it 'wealth redistribution'. There is a vicious section of Tory state hangers-on that is not against state expenditure as such, just against ordinary punters getting anything from the state. IDS's sanctions regime is designed to cast off such people as soon as possible.
