Frank Lampard 15:55 - Dec 13 with 1582 viewsexiled_dictator

just scored for man city.
definitely past it.
we were right to dismiss him, as supporters.
no evidence that we ever tried to sign him on a free from chelsea, but luckily we didn't.
would have added nuffink other that to the wage bill .......

Tough to predict how he would have done at ours. My bet is he will score more for city in his cameo plus role than he would have starting every game for us.

Redknapp, and even more so Fernandes, have made some stupid old-boy signings, but I'm glad they didn't make this one of them. Imagine the wages he's on!

You'd rather we didn't have 7 goals from midfield?

It's probably easier to score 7 goals from midfield when you have the sort of players that City have.

Leroy Fer could've had that many by now with the amount of woodwork and pointblank saves / misses he's had.

I think his problem is that he's a bit nervous in the box. Now that he's managed to scuff a couple in he might get some decent shots away.

Firstly, Lampard is in a much better team than we would have been, so has more opportunities and looks much better
Secondly, you would have been mad to even consider Lampard as a QPR fan. After last time in the Premier League do you really think doing exactly the same thing would have helped? Just because of him being good doesn't mean he would have been for us, Ferdinand would probably look better in a better defence. People didnt want him because he was just another old player on a massive wage, it was sensible not to go for him

Yes, if we have to pay 100-200k per week for them. Nothing against Lampard, who's one of the few decent people to come out of Stamford Bridge in the last decade, but that's the way to financial ruin, and the memory of seven goals from midfield wouldn't be much consolation to me.

Id wager that we are paying a hell of a lot more than that to Barton, Mutch, Fer, Krancjar, Taarabt, Phillips & Hoilett to be far more unproductive.

I'd far rather we pay Lampard £100k a week and ditch a few of the above personally.

I think that's simplistic in the extreme, Jamie.

Pay one player £100k/wk (and we know that Lampard is on far more than that) and we'll have upped the maximum wage in our club in one huge leap, and agents and players will know it and will come knocking on behalf of both current players and prospective future players. Pretty soon we'll be forced to pay others more money than you're currently doing.

We finally have a wage structure in place, we are getting far more value for our pound of the likes of Dunne, Isla, Vargas, Fer and Austin than we would if we signed Lampard, abandoned our structure and declared open season on ourselves again.

To sign Lampard would have made no sense whatsoever.

Paying Lampard £100k per week wouldn't exactky set a dangerous precedent. Remy & Samba previously weren't that far off, and Saint Joseph is still earning a hefty sum, that with bonuses and image rights is unlikely to be far off that amount.

Having a 'sensible' wage cap with one player on substantially more failed in the case of Barton, but in my naive world, players would have more respect for Lampard earning more than them that Saint Joseph.

All semantics of course as he turned us down.

1. Apparently we did try to sign him but he refused.
2. Just because he has scored 7 for Citeh doesn't mean he would have scored 7 for us. That is a nonsense argument.
3.A fallacy based on a lie, springs to mind.

So you would advocate a return to the failed policy of having a massive gap in wages in the same dressing room? We saw the complete disunity that caused and the results were there in our relegation.

Lampard is likely to be on far more than £100k per week, with bonuses closer to £200-250k. Barton isn't on even half that, and we're trying to get away from even that much excess, and have done well since we got relegated.

Our policy now is a sensible one. Semantics, as you rightly say, though seeing as he's gone elsewhere.

He'll always score goals.

However he's playing for a team that is one of the best in the land.

Our free kicks might be better though.

Hi,
Per week Remy was on 70k and Newcastle would only pay £45k, that's why he came to us. Samba despite newspaper reports TF tweeted that everyone should stop going on about £100k as he said Samba was only on a little more than £65K per week. So, let us say he was on £68k per week.

Barton we know is on £70k per week, Rednapp made statements that Adel is on around £50k or £60k. So, let us say £60k. Green we know is on around £50k per week. And I would say these are our top earners.

Two are already gone, Barton and Adel above will be out of contract, although Green may have one more year, but someone will pick him up on a free as he has had a good season so far. Thus most of our higher paid guys will probably be gone at the end of the year.

This will leave us with Austin as our highest paid player, should he sign a new contract at £50k per week. I am not sure anyone will be on more than that come end of the year, unless we sign Torres in Jan :P

He wasn't respecting Chelsea so much recently by making public comments about Man City being the best club he's played for and how he's the happiest he's ever been, or words to that effect.
