Edited in light of utter, utter cunce in France.

Obviously nobody on here is watching this, but in the opening 15mins Spain are passing the ball to each other.

Joe Hart is launching 60 yard balls which a Spanish player collects.

I have been watching the same thing for 20 years, why can't we change?

Could say the same about lalana , how he is in the England team is a mystery

Actually we have had a few good attacking moves.

But why can't we pass it out from the back. Spain pressing us at the back is so predictable that any football tactician must have an answer to this

Absolutely fentestic finish but Sterling should hang his head.

Lose it in midfield is forgivable and atoned by dropping in to cover the right back who he'd stitched up; but then to switch off and let their man wander unmarked is criminal at this level
I had a discussion with my hairdresser, (okay the barber who shines my head!!!), yesterday and we thought the only genuine world class players we had were Hart, Barkley and Stetling. I'm changing my opinion slowly and think Sterling may actually be a flat track bully

We just don't seem to have confidence, energy, zip or technique when we play the better teams

And there's there's an easy second...Rob Green in goal with that clearance?!?!

Its like a top 4 premiership team playing a mid table championship team.

That's where English football is at the moment. Hate to be negative but we are in the 2nd tier of international football right now. Has anyone got any answers?

Must have been the late 80's when we had such a paucity of options up front. Kane is a decent mid table striker where are the strikers with pace and power

If Kyle Walker is the best option as a right back then we are in trouble. Totally useless at this level. Wouldn't let him near the England team nor Lallana. To me Lallana just slows the game right down. However one player who really looks good at this level now is Smalling. Looks like the best centre half we have at the moment and with Stones should be our central defensive pairing for years to come.

Someone on the radio last night (think it was Lawrenson) was asked why England always do well in qualifying but fail spectacularly at tournament stage. His answer was that our players play in the most competitive and energy sapping league in the world and so are on their knees when it comes to the summer tournaments. It was crying out for the interviewer to ask why the overseas players that play in the PL seem completely unaffected. The answer is easy - average players with a sh*t attitude and a bland manager.

One of the major problems we are up against is the "give us the physical specimen (6 feet tall, twelve years old, lightning fast) and we'll teach them how to play". Not particularly well, you won't. I know of a talented kid who was rejected by a well known clubs' scout because his dad was not particularly tall. It was his step-dad.

Spain v England
Men v boys
Footballers v athletes
Brain v Braun
1st class v economy class
Quality v quantity
It doesn't matter who's in charge, they're just far better and always will be until we start teaching our youngsters how to control a football.
Maybe fusball is the answer?

Now Jesse lingaurd has been called up.

How is he international quality.

If this is an example of ready made English international then we are well and turkey scrapping the barrel.

Dele Ali and now lingaurd Are nowhere near international standard. As long as the prem teams keep signing overseas players then England will only keep falling further behind the rest.

Belgium are light years ahead of us in all positions on the field. Add to that a succession of bland england managerial appointments then any chance of England possibly even winning a game at the euros will surprise me.

captains fantastic

The so-called top 4 contribute very little to the England team, the vast majority of our players start at mid-lower prem or football league clubs. To fix this we need to do several things...

1) Limit the number of kids clubs can sign for each age group so that they're more selective in recruitment from other clubs and also forces them to put more emphasis on coaching the kids they have rather than dropping kids because they can sign a better one from elsewhere. This would also spread the quality of players throughout clubs rather than all being at 'top' clubs where opportunities may be limited. In addition this would create more competitive matches at youth level.

2) To support this any kid they sign up would have to stay at the club for a minimum of say 3 years (barring exceptional circumstances).

3) Put a proper transfer system in place to protect the smaller clubs and ensure they get properly compensated if a bigger club takes their players. This would encourage them to invest in their academies.

4) Force clubs to include at least 2 players from their U21's or younger age groups in their matchday squads. This would help to create pathways for youth team players, further their football education and create opportunities for players.

5) Limit squads to say 20 players supplemented by the U21 squad which would also be limited in size. Again this would create pathways and opportunities.

6) Restrict the loan system so that clubs don't buy up every half-decent player (English or foreign) on the off-chance that they might develop into a decent player.

7) Limit the number of foreign players a club can sign (probably not legal though) to encourage clubs to sign top foreign players not average foreign players taking opportunities English kids could have instead.

We also need to change the football culture in this country...

8) Encourage clubs to send both youth team players and coaches to foreign clubs to expose them to different ways of doing things, different cultures and to generally further their education.

9) As part of the EPPP clubs must employ scouts in each continent to observe coaching methods and general approach in foreign countries and then put on workshops to further expose and educate players and coaches.

10) Create an English identity and way of playing and develop a way of coaching this. Then make a huge effort in educating current coaches in this way of playing whilst being able to adapt, this would be supported by points 8 and 9 above, basically creating intelligent players who know the game not just athletes who do as they're told.

11) Make an even bigger effort to raise the number of qualified coaches at all levels throughout grassroots football.

12) Educate PE teachers in schools and offer them free/discounted coaching courses.

13) Keep kids football (<U11's) below head height, maybe even ban heading of the ball which I think the USA have introduced. Small pitches. Small sided games. Lots of futsal.

14) Encourage schools to do more PE and educate students about diet, too many fat kids/people in this country. Also teach them about the effects or drink and drugs, f*ck knows how many decent players stop playing football because they start going down the pub with their mates but I bet it's a lot!!

15) Stop paying U21 players silly money, put it in a trust or whatever, too many get a big contract then lose their drive to improve.

I could probably go on given more time to think about it. A lot needs to be done, but nothing will get done and we'll just carry on as we are.
