Tremendous work again Clive I was looking forward to this one and you did not let us down.
We simply self destructed and Kakay cost us with his stupid nedless tackle firstly then his block attempt which finished the game.I know he had to try but throw the full body and block it complely .
The ref was pathetic and as you explained so beautifully the linesman was just horseshi*t .
But even with a converted penalty there was no chance of getting 2 let alone 3 goals once we imploded .
Everybody is celebrating Mick the turncoat losing his job with the other Rangers but we are in much worse shape now than when he bailed out on us .

All that after I’d spent a week cuddling up to a 0-0 away draw, kind of says everything really.

Thanks for the info on refs toward the end of this piece. I had no idea they were still part time and that, as you point out, goes a long way to explain how bloody awful they can be.

Great report mate. 100 per cent spot on regards the team, the management, and crucially the growing misery for us lot watching this rubbish being rolled out week after week.

If there's still anyone who thinks that GA is a Championship standard manager, I fear for their mental health almost more than I am currently fearing for mine. A rookie ref out there, and I am absolutely certain that every Cov player had been made aware of it beforehand. Foul foul foul in the first 10 minutes and see what he does. When the answer was nothing, they knew they had him in their pocket. A tactic to help them control the match. An actual tactic whether you like it or not. Do we think our lot were made aware of that beforehand? Not a chance.

"Run about. Give it everything. Empty the tank". I don't believe our tactics go much beyond that. Zero offensive planning, certainly nothing that works at Championship level.

The only chance you've got with a below average squad is an above average manager/coach to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts. What we've got, if you can believe it's possible, is a below average squad with far below average manager that's making the whole even worse than the sum of its parts. A brainless appointment that makes the situation worse and worse with every day he's retained. I'm not a hater, and I'm certainly not loving it, but you, me and every poor sod who turns up to watch this car crash turn into a motorway pile up deserve far better than this.

Great write up. Encompasses all the frustrations we are all feeling. The last few years and especially this last year have been miserable.
I did find myself at the final whistle Saturday wondering why? This is supposed to be fun, but the enjoyment, in the main has disappeared and I don’t see it returning any time soon.

People, and especially the younger generation especially will walk away for good if we are don’t see some ‘fun and entertainment’ return rapidly

QPR fail another exposure to Coventry’s sky-blue light – Report on 09:16 - Oct 2 with 5391 viewsthehat

Thanks Clive - A perfect report on a miserable afternoon.

Out of all our home losses this one hurt the most as I was one of those optimistic people you mentioned who really thought we had turned a corner. I knew there would be bumps along the way but this one felt particularly painful.

I would have probably gone for similar starting eleven maybe JCS for Fox so when that early injury happened I wasn't too disappointed although JCS along with some others had very poor second halves.

Mark Robins is a bloody good manager and after the break they knew we weren't hurting them in the last third so they almost let us get there then pinched the ball and knew we were painfully slow in tracking back so would have Chair, Willock, Dykes, Smyth and Paal wrong side of the ball and attacked our defence with pace and aggression. Very similar to what they did to us last year.

That's it for me with Willock now he must not start another game again for us for quite some time - Body language was appalling and he certainly did not "empty the tank"

Kakay who has been playing as well as he can recently also had a stinker second half including giving away that stupid free kick.

However taking into account all of that the Swansea hand ball, their first goal being offside, the Armstrong penalty things may well of been different. We surely are due some very big decisions to go our way soon.

Despite Saturday I still believe we will be okay (just) all we can do is stick together and continue to ride this bloody long storm.

I am amazed my kids still want to come every Saturday afternoon.

On why Armstrong came on at 0-2 he was about to come on before they scored the 1st goal and then was sat down again for some reason until they got another one. We are very slow with making subs

Yes we lost on Saturday, it wasn't a great performance but the goals we conceded are the worry....plus the lack of goals.

Goal 1 - Offside, probably (unlike others think it isn't 100% clear).
Goal 2 - Midfield did not track their forward running midfielder - he had an acre of space. The initial shot got lucky when it hit a player and rebounded to a Cov player. The subsequent shot was deflected past the keeper.
Goal 3 - Midfield again initially then poor positioning by the defender(s).

My worry is also our forward(s)......Dykes done one thing all match and that was a neat header, well saved. One thing in 90 minutes!!! Willock was poor, he has gone as far as I am concerned (or he currently isn't playing well) and do not understand why he keeps getting selected - give the boys a chance to see if they are good enough - he will be dropped for the Leeds game. Paal is our leading scorer FFS!!!

GA also concerns me, Armstrong not the 'full ticket' but he must deserve a starting place ahead of the pretty poor Willock or Dozzell (Dont think either will start at Leeds). If I was Armstrong I would not be too pleased with being benched. He will start at Leeds - 100%. But it is just not GA team selection(s) that are not good imho - why is he continually buying defensive type players - another one last week!!! We need forward(s) ffs....we don't score goals!!!

Think there will be a few changes for the Leeds match.

I am an optimist. I choose to be one. My late Dad told me to always look for a bit of blue sky(no pun intended ).

I simply cannot write us off in July or take my seat at games expecting to lose . Whats the point of actually going, spending the time and money to do so expecting to be punched in the guts again .

If the craic is the draw , I can get that in the pub watching a game and following our game on my phone .

In my world we were unlucky on Sat , the first goal hit their guy full in the face and dropped to the scorer who was offside. The second was a full blooded shot at goal which hit their guy jumping out of the way , rolled out to the oncoming scorer whose shot was deflected in. The penalty shout is....well ...speechless .

For balance I have 2 adult sons who share the pessimism , they get a bit frustrated with my views . When I said to my oldest "see you Sat" I watched his face fall . I on the other hand am looking forward to it

Great report Clive, said everything I wanted to and more. My problems with the team and set up are this. Dykes, never going to be a striker of a decent standard. I watched him for a while on Saturday and he simply isn,t up to it. On the odd occasion we do get a decent cross into the box he is nowhere to be seen, at one stage Smyth flashed one across the six yard line, where was he , moaning at Chair because he didn,t aniticipate that Dykes couldn,t be arsed to chance the ball flashing across the box. The man simply does not have the strikers instinct to be in the right place at the right time aka Charlie Austin. He hides most of the game, he has no desire to make runs into dangerous areas for the opposition. Incidentally if I was Chair I would be knocking on my agents door all day every day to get out of this place, he is the one and I mean one creative player we have , yet what is he faced with week in week out. When he gets the ball he is looking for options and he simply has none. It is a credit to him he still puts in the shift he does and a stark contrast to some others in the team who clearly either cannot be arsed or don,t want to be hear. I effect we are playing teams with 8 or 9 players every week and there is only going to be one outcome of that. Someone also needs to explain to me what Dozell contributes , I reckon the square root of nothing.
As for the refereeing performance well it has all been said really but I am quite optomistic about this as if all the " it evens itself out over a season " merchants are right then the least we can expect is a one goal start at Swansea away and a one goal start at Coventry with a penalty to boot.
GA is starting to look like the wrong man at the wrong time appointment AGAIN so sadly if I was the board I would be getting Neil Warnocks number out of the roladex and begging him to come back as anything short of that is only going to end in relegation.
A very sad state of affairs

Does very much feel like currently the old adage of falling into a barrel of t1ts...

Surely our luck has to change some time - with so many games to go you can't give up yet.

I just don't quite understand what some of our fans' expectations are for this season - it is clearly all about survival. It's not going to be pretty or much fun for most of it, but you have to back the players and I am hopeful we will just about survive.

While I agree, thinking one win from 20 home games is unacceptable is not excessively high expectations. One win from 20 home games is also not going to result in survival, ugly or otherwise.

Warburton, when analysing a goal conceded, would go back a stage and look at where concession was lost, rather than the goal itself (i.e. if we hadn't lost the ball, they wouldn't have had the opportunity). Taking that one stage further, we have to go back another step and look at why we are set up the way we are to constantly be giving teams the opportunities we do. This is where a good manager makes a difference, in tactical acumen in setting up a team and reacting to the oppositions' moves. Limit their chances, goals conceded reduce. Our coaching team, sadly, have no tactical nous. You have to look no further than Champions elect Watford (now 20th btw) away to see that.

Our starting 11 isn't bottom three. Whilst it has been available we've p1ssed away points that we would have claimed with a decent manager. With the depth of our squad, and what's likely to happen over the Winter, we simply can't afford to pass on any points there for the taking. The longer this goes on the deeper into the brown stuff we go

Correct in the first par - as I said in the report, Simms had effectively been one on one with our goalkeeper on four occasions before the one he scored. We'd escaped thanks to two poor finishes, and great recovery tackles from Clarke Salter and Cook.

Asking why Chair is still playing for QPR and asking why we don't score enough goals actually amounts to the same thing.

In the dim and distant past you used to tell players "If a teammate is crossing the ball from the other side of the pitch, you attack the far post". It's basic, very basic in fact. Centre forward attacks the near post, second player attacks the far post, third player delays his run slightly to hit the penalty spot or pick up the second ball. It's not fancy, it's not complicated, it's not something that gets a million likes on YouTube, it won't give the Level 3 coaching badge brigade a little erection, but it does get you goals. In fact, it is the sort of thing you used to teach little kids never mind professional footballers.

And yet, time after time on Saturday I watched Smyth put a cross (variable quality, granted) into the box where Dykes was the only attacking player. Outnumbered 4-1. Look up the pitch and see Chair 10 yards outside the penalty area (Willock even further away, but I think we all have to accept he's done playing for us in any meaningful way). How can Chair, at 25 years old, having played 200 games, still not know you have to attack the back post? And I seem to recall something about Chair's goals all coming from outside the area?

I say that with the full knowledge that Chair is our best attacking player. But the reason no-one wants to pay money for him (or the sort of money we want for our best player) is that he doesn't impact the game enough. Why doesn't he score more goals? Why is he never in a position to attack crosses? Why, when he does occasionally get into a shooting position, does he so often look for the perfect set up instead of having a dig? Why does he consistently get past one player, only to turn back into trouble?

But, then again maybe I'm just a dinosaur. Maybe the idea of doing things on the pitch that actually increase your chances of scoring goals - like taking shot and attacking crosses - is outdated.

Self confessed happy clapper but yeah unfortunately " It’s looking like a duck, it’s quacking like a duck" is spot on. Remember this forum blowing up when Warbs Warburton went on one of his six game losing streaks despite us playing well and creating dozens of chances, halcyon days in hindsight.

Nailed it again with your report Clive.

The line that stood out for me was 'Coventry, like Sunderland before them, have now won more games at Loftus Road in 2023 than QPR have' and you highlighted that they could soon be joined by Blackburn and Bristol City.

Both Coventry and Sunderland have also managed to score 6 goals at Loftus Rd in 2023, whereas we've managed a paltry 9 (in 15 games). Home form like that will certainly see us relegated and I suspect if Blackburn & Bristol City join the list (assuming Leicester also win in between those games) GA will be gone.

I would agree that getting anyone into the plus Dykes would be a good thing but ask Chair to provide the ammo and finish at the same time is naive. As I said I watched Dykes for a while on Saturday before I got bored/ frustrated / enraged and at one stage Willock put in a realyy decent cross in the first half, where do you think Dykes was, standing scratching his nuts on the edge of the area. He simply isn,t good enough. He waits around the back post looking to get marked by the three opponents that are there. The one time recently he attacked the front post he scored against Swansea. , how many more times does he need to do this before realising it may pay didvidends.

Great report. Glad you highlighted how many times Simms was through on goal before he scored. It was either not picked up by GA and the coaching staff, or completely ignored, which ever it was it was shocking nothing was done to counter it, and then the inevitable happened.

Never thought GA was the right man, and I think his time is running out. Defeat against Leeds, and then Saturday, could see a role of the dice again. Now where was Mr Warnocks number?

Bare bones.
