Adelaide - 2nd Ashes Test 12:49 - Dec 4 with 3164 viewscoolranger

I'm going to kick this off and stick my neck out with some predictions.

I have a feeling that Cook, Pietersen and Bell will come good with some big runs in the Adelaide Test, and we may also see some form from Carberry and Prior at last.

Drop in pitch, so there is a degree of the unknown, but Adelaide is generally flat. Hopefully England will bat first and aim to get at least 400. Spinners and reverse swing should come in to play. I think Johnson will be less of a threat this time.

Also note that four of Australia's top seven failed in both innings in Brisbane (Watson, Smith, Rogers, Bailey) - so they have weaknesses to exploit too.

I think England's spin threat and reverse swing ability will see at least one Australian collapse, which may open the door to an England win. Otherwise a draw. I expect England to fight back quite strongly in this Test.

Whilst we (sort of) spanked them in the summer, are notorious slow starters and remember, came back last winter to beat India after losing the first test, you're only as good as your last performance.

I'd be confident but am a little concerned. We should find our form, confidence and abilities and beat them. But I think a lot will hinge on the first day. Regardless of batting or bowling, it's important that we 'win all three sessions' of day one. Aussie momentum and confidence is a very dangerous thing.

I have no doubt that our lads are good enough and strong enough to get the job done but for some reason, I have a feeling this series hangs on day one of this test now.

We cannot start slowly. We must batter the cnts.

2:59 baby!

I have no confidence after our recent mauling however I am hoping that the sledging issue and the Trott issue will give us a seige mentality and we will fight, back to the wall style, to take this series and show the Aussies that they are a poor shadow of previous teams.

Broad to continue his exploits and Cook and Carberry to step up to deliver some big scores.

Sexy Asian dwarves wanted.

My prediction is a draw. Yes, the Poms will get some runs, as much as Holloway does not think so. The weather is expected to be low to high 20s with a slight chance of some drizzle Sunday and Monday. Adelaide is also quite dry, so less chance of spin to be a factor. That is more Sydney's spot in the matches. Don't be surprised if both teams score over 400 in the first innings.

I backed the Aussies to win the series before they kicked off.

Nothing I have seen so far makes me regret that decision!

Dont know why we bother. .... but we do!

What's so frustrating is that before the Trott wicket in the first innings Johnson was bowling his usual rubbish and you could see his confidence waning and Clarke was also getting twitchy with the amount of runs he was conceding so that wicket before lunch changed the whole game

If we can get after him in his 1st spell then I fancy our chances the Aussies are not all that to be honest and I'm still confident we can at least draw the series

I really don't know what's gonna happen here. No idea.

Oz still looks like a decent T20 team, but a test side, for a 5 day test on a decent batting track? Surely that will stretch their ability to withstand the physical and mental demands of test cricket? That's what i'm hoping anyway. That they'll get out through indiscipline and their bowlers will break down because they're not proper tough durable battle-hardened test bowlers, and in the field they'll start to fray at the edges, and if all that happens then England will win. Hopefully.

Apart from the past 5 years or so.

Even if we lose this series, which is by no means certain, your judgement of England after 3 consecutive Ashes series wins and winning a series in India earlier this year (for me, the biggest achievement of all) suggests your analysis is either trying to get a reaction or simply clueless.

The Aussies are talking it like they are #1 in the world again but the team is some way short of that. Had Hayden and Warne on news this AM loving the mongrel attitude and will be interesting first session.
As well as batsman, Swann needs to be an awful lot better than in Brisbane.

whats the last 3 ahses got to do with it ???

man utd won the title last season

AINT going to win it this season

england are not playing well and havent hit 400+ all year

With one Test to go, this is the first summer of this millennium in which England have not amassed a total of 400. Their highest, and best, total to date came in the second innings at Trent Bridge when the score 375

you score 400+ and you dont often lose score less and you leave the door open to defeat

i dont see us getting 300 first innings simple as that not one of our players is in really good nick with the bat and the warm up games have been a total joke

yes half an hour and Perth will be 2 hours ahead

Its been constantly raining over the last couple of hours here so may be a late start and further rain is forecast during the test ( Sunday at the moment )

The wicket has been a bloody road in the Sheffield Shield matches so a run scoring draw between showers could be the go

This one is the key test, we always lose in Perth so have to win or draw this one to stay in it imo.

Could go either way, I fancy England to respond well but I've still got doubts about our ability to kill teams off, too often we let a lower order partnership add an extra 100 runs to make life tougher for ourselves

Stokes and Panesar in for Trott and Tremlett by the sound of it.

So we are going for it.

That's exactly right Dave. We bowl well, keeping a tight line etc., to get the top order out then inevitably once we get to the tail enders that goes out the window, and we start the bouncers etc. and allow the opposition to recover. The Aussies will get 400 plus in this innings and I expect us to collapse to score of no more than 200 I'm afraid.

sad to agree on our batting, I don't fancy that batting line up even on this pitch, if Cook and Pieterson don't score big then we'll struggle
