The match seemed one sided, Walsall had done their homework and Fully deserved to be in the Football League Trophy Area Quarter Final.

A repeat of Barnsley game except a worse performance. The experiment of playing without a recognised striker works away but not at home. Out of 8 home games we have scored in only 3.
Don't understand why Lunt didn't get a game as Cannon was an embarrassment.

Player ratings are flattering to Saints. Despite this astonishing and record breaking win, Saints won in this fashion because Sunderland were absent from the South Coast for the whole afternoon after the 12th minute. This fact does not diminish our achievement, but it's not helping the realistic evaluation of our players.
What a proud moment to be a Saint today!
Instead of boasting the fantastic team we have, let's concentrate on the next game and wish for other 3 points.

What a toothless display!! Keith, you need to admit that Andrew is a mistake, confine him to the reserves, and try Muldoon. Hendo could have played all day and never scored!!

So, after the most exciting afternoon any of us can remember at St Marys, time for a bit of calm reflection.

That our new stars turned up and performed well there can be no doubt. That Sunderland gave up in the second half there can also be no doubt (though they were a potent threat in the first half). That we had the rub of the green with the own goals is also true (though you make your own luck and they were all forced errors).

What was really striking however is how good our old players Shniederlin, Fonte, Clyne, Davis and Cork have become. Each in their own way has been a revelation. They have grown in confidence, shown skills I would never have believed they had and played with a determination and cohesion that was unthinkable a year ago. Clyne in particular must surely be the player of the season and why he is not a regular for England is a complete mystery to anyone who is seriously interested in the game. He is like an having extra striker in the team.

Today's performance is a lesson to everyone else in the premiership about team performance and the potential to shine when those around you are prepared to make the same effort.

Wow, what a game! 15 mins are so in I was thinking a point would be a good result..! Sunderland dominated. But what an opening goal. A striker would be proud of that. Penalty anyone?? I might be biased but he did lose control of the ball before jumping over Forster ... A total capitulation by Sunderland though.

I can see teams coming to st. Mary's from now on being very hard to breakdown after this result.

One slight worry I have is I'm surprised that Forster is a bit "flappy" when it comes to crosses. Also, he seems to spill the ball a bit also. Maybe I'm being over critical on the guy.

And so our focus switches to the next game and 3 points hopefully. Onwards and upwards.

Well we cruised into a 3 goal lead in the first half, without playing well at all and Sunderland did not look that bad.. I thought we played well in the second half but difficult to say how much of that was down to Sunderland giving up. A mention for Shane Long today as he seemed to win everything in the air today - what a leap he has! Even without scoring he was a constant nuisance to Sunderland. At the end of the game we had 3 Africans on the pitch - probably a first for Saints?

A poor start to the game but who would have guessed the outcome. I love this team.

The difficult thing with a big win like this is every goal you score makes the opposition appear more crap so everyone says "but Sunderland were awful". But look at their results, they haven't been this awful before, we made them this bad because we played so well. We just kept scoring until their heads dropped ... and then scored some more.
