Gavin Ward up to his old tricks, reffing the Blades vs Boro game 20:42 - Feb 9 with 2339 viewsMajorShotKneesHoop

Guessing one decision after another, both sets of fans booing him. Missed a shocking stamp on the foot by the Boro defender.

Bet we get him again soon; he's rehearsing his worse decisions just for us.

Great game being screwed by an incompetent ref.

And Bamford throwing himself to the ground to claim ridiculous fouls, I can see a penalty coming his way soon. Ward will buy one

Didn’t know he was reffing it until about half an hour in which is a good sign. Superb game so far.

Boro' two nil up at half time. They look shit hot. Their midfield gets every 50/50 ball - and use it,

Fat Frank has got to be worried how, This lot look really up for it, full of running too.

As for Chris Wilder, couldn't happen to a nicer person ...

I thought he got that right too. Late , high and unnecessary in force and intent . Idiotic .

Impressed with Boro for the first 70 minutes.
Looked a class apart to the rest

Was one Boro booking off a 170/1 winner so his sudden laissez-faire approach is rather unfortunate. Was banking on the ‘look at me’ 97th minute goalkeeper yellow card but no such luck.

To be fair I thought Rothwell was going for the ball. I just couldn't tell if it was the left or the right one?

Never knowingly right.

Boro were excellent. They had a ten minute period prior to the sending off and it was one/two touch football. Moving it quick. Best performance id seen in the championship this season

Too right about quality, touch, nous, skill not just with Boro who were excellent but Blades too who are still five points behind the mighty Rs because of their godawful start.

Play to feet, shift the ball quick.

Football ain't that complicated.

Though Ward had a decent game. Fantastic game of football.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

I know we can moan about the Championship but that was far more entertaining than a lot of the tedious Prem rubbish on show (e.g. Brighton v Palace).

Can't believe I'm saying it but I quite liked Ward's "hands off" approach last night.

Mainly as it wound the granny out of Bramall Lane but it contributed to a great game.
The red card was correct.
Only thing was I really thought Tangana (sp) was going to talk / continual foul himself into a red as well.... thought Ward put up with a lot from him.

Off for a lay down now.........

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

His first 20 minutes weren't good, early on he missed a similar "orange" tackle by a Boro midfielder which didn't even merit a foul and the crowd were on his back up to half time after that.

The game was so fast that I suspect he ran out of breath after that.

I think he had advice in his ear piece to send the Blades player off, shown by the delayed reaction on giving the red card.

I still think our Gavin is one of the worst for wanting to get involved for all the wrong reasons.

Or Charlton vs QPR, or Oxford vs QPR, or Stoke vs QPR?

It's a mind set for QPR not to want to try to win away from home that does all the damage

You can’t really compare us to Middlesbrough. Yesterday their subs included Sarmiento who scored two goals against us in Burnley’s Championship title winning season and Strelec who cost a potential £9 million fee including add ons. That’s their subs. They also don’t have two of their best players out injured. Our subs for e.g. Oxford included Kolli and Vale who I’m sure we all agree have potential but not experience and are nowhere near that level.

I honestly think that if Stephan had his full squad we’d be going for it far more than we are. I know we didn’t totally around the Christmas period but we were already starting to get injuries then and he was trying to eke out his resources. Personally I think he’s trying to keep us in contact with the play offs and hope we’ll get some people back soon: Chair? Varane? with the view that with a fuller squad we could put a run together. We’re still only three points away and a brain fart from Mbengue of actually being in the play offs.

I wasn't comparing to those games!

Making the point that Championship games can often be more enjoyable than "the best league in the world".

One thing I would add is Gavin Ward has been reffing at this level since at least 2010 (on the basis I remember him giving us a last minute penalty against Portsmouth in the title winning season which Tommy Smith put away).

How the hell does he look so young still? What's his secret?!

I thought he was rotten first 20-30, I agree. That foul on the edge of Boro box he spent about 90 seconds staring at, then ran away - cut to a reply of the United player having his legs whipped away as he rounds the defender. He just guesses his way through matches: some better guesses than usual last night.

What a great match, though. We can't be compared to Boro yet, they're several years ahead of us in terms of recruitment and experience. Plus they have the best midfielders in the division, a brilliant blend. Hackney and McGee, so dynamic.

Makes you wonder what Hellberg would do with Man United though.

If he needed advice on that ref then he should hang up the whistle.Brutal tackle and could have seriously injured Browne at that pace IMO.
Just watched the 10 minute You Tube version but there were so many shots of Wilder it was offputting why is that needed
Both teams played at above some PL speed to be fair.

Yes, they did look 'shit hot'.
Their rapid and accurate passing (not much of it backwards) was wonderful to watch and would tear most Championship teams apart.
