Pitch invasions
at 19:29 20 May 2022

Interesting read. If it's accurate that FA can enforce ground closures then I guess making all teams where they were invaded play first 5 or even 10 games of the season behind closed doors might be enough for fans to realize they're hurting their team. Looks like a lot of the managers are against anyone coming on the pitch which makes sense.

Pitch invasions
at 14:07 20 May 2022

I posted on another thread that I thought pitch invasions were subject to point deductions etc. I've not lived in uk for 20 years or so so I'm not at all up to date with modern protocols etc. Maybe I'm getting too old or too distant from the reality of football in England but it does look like it's only going to be time before something really bad happens if the FA continues to tolerate invasions. I think anyone entering a baseball or nfl field is prosecuted out here and there's zero tolerance policy. Like I say probably means I'm too far removed and santiized to understand.

I was surprised to see these pitch invasions tolerated at the end of play off games. Is there a general acceptance that getting into the play off final makes a pitch invasion ok? I just thought there were fines and potential point deductions for an invasion?

What is the speculation? Other than an asset strip what could cause this type of performance?

As bad as it gets. No idea how we implode like this once a season. I know RH wants to exit football at the end of next season, my guess is he’ll resign tomorrow and won’t take next years money…

And mew signing Alli didn’t get on the pitch despite one sun remaining. On plus side those add ins that make his fee up to 40mn look unlikely now. I can’t see Everton staying up and whilst I don’t really have a dog in this fight, I quite liked seeing Jay Rod score.

Also given we were linked to Brandon Williams a lot, I thought he looked very average and supposedly on 70k per week. Imagine he’ll be lighting up league one in a few years

new keeper......
at 17:53 16 Feb 2022

From memory FF was playing exceptionally well under RK and when RK went to Everton he had a short contract left and we wanted to keep him here hence the bumper contract he received. (I think we’d tied down VVD just weeks before probably knowing RK was off and I think that was part of why he got so sulky - there was obviously a lot goin on in the back office at the time).

If we can get FF on a contract more akin to his level, great, however I dare say that being on free there will be plenty out there willing to pay up for him in lieu of a transfer fee especially given the form he’s been in lately. McCarthy goes hot and cold in my opinion and I think he’s be too expensive as a back up and not good enough for our first choice for the next two or theee seasons. As such I suspect we’ll take a bit of a gamble on two solid, currently playing abroad, keepers with WC as back up incase they take time to adjust.

Given Harry Lewis cannot get a game for love nor money, if we try and sign him again I will give up trying to understand our goalkeeping strategy.

I thought he was fouled before it went for a throw in and this as a red VAR should have pulled it back to that? It’s like double jeopardy: when you play advantage, shouldn’t be able to be double yellow carded…

Broja
at 19:02 10 Feb 2022

Buy back clause a great option for both parties: it protects Chelsea if he become world class and they want him back, it protects Chelsea if he just becomes really good and some else wants him (they bank difference between buy back clause and sale price) and if we put a two year effective clause in it, we get him for two seasons minimum and likely make a chunky profit at the end.

Given how well he’s coming on and how little pressure there is on him as he keeps developing here I hope there’s a sliver of a chance this happens. However, as per “lifelong saints fan” Danny Ings, if another deal pays a few grand a week more then there’s a 95% chance he takes the incremental cash and runs. Second year loan with option to buy a close second best. Unfortunately there’s too much cash away from us to really compete unless we can structure a deal that protects the new owners.

If we somehow get Broja in the summer then he will have done us a favor. I think we just have to realize that no matter how much money football players get paid, if someone offers an incrementally better deal they’ll grab it with both hands.

I was just thinking that if his performance so far is taking into consideration at the tribunal we won’t owe Everton any compensation at all…

I must say I like this approach. Given so few academy players make it to the first team for Chelsea it suggests it has legs. Inserting punchy buy-back clauses protects Chelsea if they become a world class player and probably gives Saints 2 - 3 seasons of guaranteed playing time with the player as others will not come swooping after one good season knowing the deep pockets of Chelsea can gazump them (and have contractual first dibs). The article above is dated Nov 5th so feasible the player is fit and a viable target, however, even if not, the geographical proximity to Chelsea and given they are unlikely to see us as a threat anytime soon means the concept excites me for the near future.

He was excellent and is so much better than McCarthy. I have to think there’s a pay out clause for final year of his contract linked to appearances that previous owner didn’t want to honor. I think he’s too good to be number 2 to a new signing

Awesome performance and Salisu outstanding as was Forster - tough to fault him in the free kick when no one went with la Porte (KWP just stopped and let him run). Only thing I would note is our passing in transition in the break was quite sloppy/weak - had that been crisper we could have put it to bed early in the game. Need that level of ficus week in week out and we can really start moving up the table.
