I've been saying this for years to anyone who will listen.
You cannot privatise public services and expect anything good.
A private company is 100% motivated to make profit. As demonstrated there is only minimal investment into infrastructure, resulting in our Victorian transport system in London, or our crumbling sewers, water and gas pipes.
It's a no brainer for these companies, they can milk it dry, strip the assets and then in the end the government will just come on in and run it again at our expense.
I can't think of one thing either that got better, now Reform are talking about an American model of Healthcare, fcuk that!!
They'll slip into power, just like Trump did off some rhetoric that foreigners eat pets and then we'll all find out! |

Because of the inefficiencies and cutbacks to the NHS we're already there. My lad has had some form of growth under his eyes for 6 months and after getting fobbed off again and again, his GP has sent him a link where he can apply for funding to have a procedure done. Not "there is a waiting list", you'll have to wait, but apply for funding and if you don't get it, you go private".
The NHS is going to eat itself anyway - the left will go for it all to be means tested, which means that those of us who have paid into government by earning a decent wage and religiously paying tax and NI all our life will be told that we're too rich and we have to pay for healthcare. So, the US system but even worse because as well as paying for ourselves, we'll have to pay for a bunch of freeloaders who haven't worked hard to get a decent income whilst not being able to claim a State Pension despite paying our way.

I had skin cancer, melanoma on my back, spotted by GP when going for antibiotics for chest infection on the Monday afternoon. Had Images taken for AI scan on the Saturday, had it cut out the following Friday. A week later they called me (I was away with work) asking me to come in two days later, went the following week diagnosed with cancer stage 0. A week later a further op to cut skin around the area.
Went from issue spotted to diagnosis to discharge in under 4 weeks.
Be careful what you wish for. I have private health as well through work, great for minor stuff and getting access to a consultant (usually NHS working on off hours) but the important stuff NHS is amazing. I could not have done it quicker with private |  | | |

Not sure about UK but here the private hospitals often don't have the facilities for the big stuff so you'll end up in public anyway for that.
Private health insurance is a scam. Most of us here are basically forced to have it because of additional medicare levy (kind of like NI in UK) if you don't. As with all privately owned things, the cost goes up by considerably more than inflation every year. | | | |

Leeds have announced plans for redevelopment of Elland Road.
Same blueprint as Man City and Birmingham, only on a much smaller scale:
- Get the local politicians roped in
- Link the stadium to urban regeneration
- Get commitments for improved local transport links.
It's the way to go. We'll never get a new stadium if we try to go it alone.

I will tell you a small NHS story. Years ago I had a computer company which started in managed offices that supplied everything. As we expanded we needed larger premises so I started planning the move to larger rented offices that were empty. The price of new office furniture was horrendous so I looked around and found a family business about seven miles away selling used office furniture. They had a retail shop and an area at the back for cleaning and minor repairs. Their furniture was excellent and on average 75% cheaper than new. They had so much stock coming through they had to turn it over quickly.
About ten years ago I needed some tall, good quality bookcases so called them and they told me to come down quickly as they had just received exactly what I was looking for. Sure enough they had five wonderful bookcases, super quality with solid backs. They had two that were 6 1/2 feet tall, like new condition. I was thrilled when they quoted me £75 each. Deal! I asked where they came from and they replied the NHS.
Such is the quality I think the NHS would have paid 4-500 pound each for them and a few years later they either asked my shop to take them away or accept £25 tops for them.
Such a waste of money. There should be a way of recycling such things to other NHS facilities rather than keep buying new. |  | | |

That may be due to the changes in leasehold regulation that may be in the works which will give more protection to leaseholders and remove the egregious money making opportunities the lease owners currently have. Things might change when that all settles down? |
Possibly but the market is being flooded with flats people bought as top ups to the pension fund ,due to labourers new renting laws everyone is getting shot of them asap |  |
