Apparently the larger boats being used is a sign the restrictions and deal with France is working, the smuggling gangs have less opportunity to launch boats so use much larger ones.

You are correct, there has been a massive reduction compared to the SPLY, it’s down from 25,500 to 14,800. Between the 3rd and 7th we had 35 people arriving in boat, then 4 days of nothing then 230 on the 8th and 423 yesterday.
Despite the massive reduction, more needs to be done. To be fair to the current Home Secretary, she’s done a lot more to address this problem than most if not all of her predecessors, but there is still work to be done. I don’t want to see an ICE type situation developing here in the uk, but we need to ensure that we have a proportionate and robust enforcement of immigration rules and working restrictions. | | | |

I was being sarcastic . if anyone belives the spin emanating from the Home Office then theres no hope for humanity.The numbers alone since the messiah has arrived in post has increased .and the use of these now speciffically designed and manufactured larger boats will see numbers increase again.

Who are these independent outlets saying the government figures are more than likely untrue ? Where is their evidence to back these claims up? What is the provenance of their sources? I’d be interested to see it. Maybe the gullible dimwits are the ones who believe these sources.
If there’s no real evidence to confirm what the government say is incorrect then it stands to reason that in the abscence of such proof we can assume that they are accurate.
The ONS scrutinises government statistics across a huge spectrum and it is their responsibility to review and check the data, if they come out and say the information is wrong then I’ll accept it, but until you can show us some rock solid sources of provenanced evidential statistics I’ll stick to the official sources. The point you make about the overall numbers is valid, but it’s pretty much always been that way. The headline overarching figure is the figure which is used to calculate the net figure.
