He played 92 games for Saints. Whatever view Saints fans formed about him, it's hardly the case that he wasn't given a chance to 'show what he can do'.
We know exactly what he can do. He can make brilliant saves one minute and then get beaten softly at his near post or low down the next.

I just stick up when someone is unfairly treated, I didn't think he was a brilliant keeper, I thought he was unlucky to be thrown into a poor Saints side as a 20 year old in his first season and he never really recovered.
But I give him the credit he deserved for his contribution in that season, not just in that unbeaten run, but before and after it.
Perhaps it is a modern day thing, pick a scapegoat and blindly claim he is the "Worst player ever"
Everyone speaks about Bobby Stokes with reverential awe as he scored the greatest goal in Saints history, with that one kick he changed history, no one berates him for his lack of goals in our relegation season two years earlier.
There are some players who leave under a cloud from this club and deserve a bit of stick for that, Dean Richards was one, but now he is venerated because of his sad passing and hailed as a club legend.
Now I don't think Bazunu is a legend, but he was nothing other than a model professional during his time here, yes he had some bad games, but in the main so did those around him aside from that promotion season.
If you can's see that or agree with that, then that is your opinion and you are entitled to it, if you can't bring it on yourself to admit he played a part in our promotion season, then thats fine, but this is only clickbait because every time I mention his name on here, people jump up to froth at the mouth about him and he deserves a little better than that.

Thats how I feel as well. I dont think he is good enough for Saints at the moment but maybe he will be a better keeper in the future, in the way that Tim Flowers er, blossomed after a spell out of the limelight.

It wasn't that he had some bad games.
It was simply that he let in soft goals on a very regular basis. Regular enough for fans to notice, and nothing to do with prejudice.
And it's hard enough trying to win games without your keeper regularly gifting goals to the opposition. | |

The bigger picture was that he was a 20 year old thrown into the car crash season of 2022/23, his confidence was smashed.
He came back in 22 League game unbeaten run and indeed in that season, he wasn't perfect, but he played 41 League games, kept 11 clean sheets and let in 54 goals, that is a bit high at 1.32 goals per game, but it should be remembered that when Alex McCarthy came in for the final 5 regular season games of that season he conceded 9 goals so 1.80 per game.
Im giving my opinion and that isn't that everyone is a pleb, but that people should look beyond a few soft goals conceded.
When I say that I try to keep reality, as I have demonstrated above and below with a few stats etc rather than just one liners about how bad a player is,.
Yes I give players stick, but I also give them credit, I gave Broja credit for his little burst of scoring when in 9 League games he got 4 goals, even his little spell after a 3 game drought of 2 in 5, combine to get 6 goals in the space of 14 games was good.
Problem was he played 33 games with just those 6 goals, he did add one assist in the middle of that spell and I do take note that his all action style meant that he created goals for others earlier in moves than the final pass.
But overall his stats were not great and neither were his attitude as he failed to get a goal or an assist in the final 4 months of the season and declined to play in the final game. | |

As for players who Nick simply couldn’t stop criticising, I give you Mia Yoshida who I believe still holds the record for the most appearances in The Premier League for a Japanese player and was until quite recently, still playing in their national team.
As for Bazunu I thought that he was a player promoted beyond his abilities. Perhaps a spell as Bolton’s number one keeper will help him prosper, who knows. | |

Dean Richards a club legend? Not for me. His untimely death was very sad and he was a very good player, but not one of our legends.
Similarly Danny Wallace was a very good player and I really feel for what he has gone through, but he didn't seem to care that much about Saints when Man U came a-knocking.
Football fans can be very sentimental and a bit revisionist too when it comes to death or illness. Steve Mills being another case in point. A potentially great player whose career and life were tragically cut short.
So for me, none of these player are 'legends', whereas Ron Davies, Micky Channon, MLT and SRL are. There's a difference.
