My Dad had a guy who worked for him who was as hard as nails, couldn’t read or write and a sweet gentle man. His job in the war was dealing with the bodies of tail gunners when the plane landed. It was not for the faint hearted and a lot of the time the rest of the crew had no idea the extent of the damage back there.
