There is absolutely no doubting that this is the best squad we have assembled, on paper, for many moons. Despite the obvious concern of keeping them fit and available, JS will have to show what he is about as a coach by making some tough calls on selection and tactics. He now knows what this league is all about and the capabilities and weaknesses of the players at his disposal.
I hope we don’t see too much of the round pegs in square hole’s shenanigans just to appease the whims of the chaps upstairs.
We have a real chance here of making that eighth spot, but will need some luck, good judgement and many of the players with potential to step up when in matters.

Agree on squad quality. It is also obvious from the pre-season media that a minimum of 8th is the aim and expectation. If we aren’t looking like making a challenge for Playoffs by Christmas I expect JS to be gone. It will be an interesting season. |  | | |

Great read. I’ve missed these. Hard not to be somewhat optimistic but then we’ve been here many, many times before. Very much looking forward to today’s game. But then that’s a bit part of the problem.

Thanks Clive for all your written and visual content during the build up to the season. You must be knackered before we’ve even started.
Yes im really feeling extremely positive about the players at our disposal and expect to see progress with many of the squad as Clive has written.
Burell has a lot of Jamie Mackie about him although he needs to gain more close control of the ball in certain areas of the pitch. Hope we see that explosive pace.
Kone as well needs to improve his hold up play , I do appreciate his past footballing history.
Varane going forward, Mbengue crossing, Smyth looking for fouls, and Illy finding his past form and adding a wise older head to it.
Poku, Saito, Kolli (?), Dembele all extending their obvious talent to be the gamechanging players we hope they can be.
Like all the new signings plus in Dunne, Edwards, Madsen, we have a really strong core to the team.
I have only seen Pierce Charles in the Millwall game ,this guy is a true quarter back and can add a whole new dimension to our play so really excited to see how this unfolds.
This is my 59th season following the club so I will dream big but am waiting for a wet haddock to slap me in the face

I share the widely-held cautious optimism, but, I would be more confident if we had un-earthed an ugly brute of a ball winner in midfield, of whom expectations were quite limited. Spot what is happening. Break up play (theirs). Win the ball. Pass it short to one of your clever midfield colleagues and ... away we go. | | | |
