Yes, and Dykes has also never scored 20 in a season. Nor was he ever the 2nd highest scoring Englishman in the Premiership (after Harry Cain, not bad company at all). See, all those other things mean nothing if a striker isn't putting the ball in the net, innit |

We all saw this; Willock on the right, cuts back, then turns forward, slips down the line and puts a cross in. Dykes, our one striker, doesn't even make an effort to get on the end of the cross and it falls harmlessly to a Hull defender. Smyth unleashes a vicious shot that the goalie is unable to hold. The ball bounces into the middle of the 6 yard box. Nobody is there to tap in the rebound because Dykes is wandering around on the edge of the box This is what we have when Dykes is on the field. He is never in the danger area |

That is madness. Dykes is a waste of a shirt and actually makes the team worse. Armstrong is frustrating but at least he provides a target, gets involved, wins battles up front, and makes himself relevant. When was the last time Dykes made a front post cut? was at the back post for a low crossfield ball? had a shot on target? was on the end of a cross? held the ball up? did anything? |

Relying on defenders for attacking prowess was never going to be a sustainable strategy. Id be ok if Dykes never wore a QPR shirt. He is useless. Id love him to prove me wrong, but he does nothing week-in week -out. Armstrong is always frustrating but at least he is involved and makes himself relevant |

While he isn't particularly effective, he is a lot better than Lyndon and offers a lot more than Frey, on current form. Dykes bustles around as far away from the firing line as he can get, so he is never anywhere near the ball, in the box to receive a cross, making a run to either the front post or back post, or literally anywhere useful. Frey is slow and lumbering. He may get better as his fitness improves, I suppose. At least Armstrong is interested in the game and provides an option up front. Obviously, playing him alone up front is ridiculous. Lobbing it up the line for Armstrong to run onto, without having someone running into the box to get onto the next ball, makes no sense and means that Armstrong is expected to run 30 yards to win the ball and then another to get into the box and then go around 2-3 defenders and then shoot past the goalie. He isn't talented enough to achieve all that. Mind you, Messi probably isn't either. Today we had too many players who spent most of the game hiding, and Sinclair was not one of them. |

Our midfield has been absent today Willock has been non-existent Andersen has been a non-factor Chair has been ineffective (although he works hard, even on an off day) Our best attacking midfielders haven't been midfielders at all, but Jimmy Dunne and to a lesser extent Paal. There have been some good balls up to Armstrong but he has been all alone up top and with nobody to play it to and he just doesn't have the skills to take it all the way on his own. So far, not a very inspiring performance |

Its noticable that it was a defender who provided the goal again today. An absolute scorcher too. How come our defenders can score with really well taken shots but our strikers never do? Did Dykes even have a single shot on target today? When was the last time he had a shot on target? |

No doubt he works hard. But he just isn't very good. He isn't fast, he doesn't get into good positions, he doesn't do much off the ball or on the ball. So yes, he hustles up and down the field, but his impact is minimal. Plus, he doesn't score very many |

Dykes never offers much as a striker. Sometimes he is good as an attacking midfielder. He isn't fast, he doesn't have a good footballing brain, his positional sense is poor, his instincts aren't great. He is strong and that's about it. ON the other hand, its not like the replacements are ripping it up, so ... |

Great performance today, for a really important win. But it is no surprise that our two goals came from defenders. I cannot remember a single shot from Frey or Armstrong and while both were influential, ultimately they are there to score goals. Both Willock and Chair had really good opportunities that they slashed at and skied it miles over the bar from close range. Again both had their moments, but in the end, balls in the back of the net speak loudest. We often talk about the elusive 20-goals-a-season striker but we aren't even close to having a 10-goals-a-season striker. Our top goalscorer this season is Chair with 5. That is pathetic. This is the team that is going to keep us up and Marti is the man, but in the off-season job number 1 has to be to get a striker who can score goals. |
