Madness in methods of Mark Warburton’s QPR entertainers
at 18:06 21 Jan 2020
Great article. Thanks for posting.
It certainly is a madcap season and as enjoyable as it is frustrating. Not quite my favourite season of all time but certainly my favourite group of players of the last couple of decades. The Taarabt promotion season was my favourite single season since the 1990s. But there is literally nothing more rewarding in football than watching essentially homegrown talent emerge and be successful. One by one youngsters come in and out of the club and look better each time they play. Its brilliant. Its like watching the 1982 side all over again. Clive Allen and Paul Goddard emerged out of the youth set-up like maniacs and its the same thing with Eze, BOS, Chair, and so on. It feels like we have a future, a direction, and a real identity again!
Jack Robinson off to Sheffield Utd
at 17:46 21 Jan 2020
I don't know why some fans are so hostile to Robinson. I thought he played well for us and always gave his all. He left after we stood by him through his injuries (which is annoying) but, we were looking to offload contracts, so that may not have been his choice. Anyhow, I liked him as a player and will continue to remember him as a good player for us.
Antti's Six Knee Jerks: QPR 1 Leeds 0

Thanks Antti. Interesting points well articulated
I definitely have not management to your level of zen about going a goal up. I get more stressed after we score than before it, because the inevitable goal conceded seems so, well, inevitable.
At halftime I posted something like "There isn't a QPR fan alive that thinks this one will end 1-0" and I stand by that. Obviously, it did end 1-0, but my point wasn't a prediction of the final score rather it was a comment on where the fans' heads were. Leeds had a lot of chances to score, including a penalty, hitting the post direct from a free kick with the goalie stranded, and a couple of open-goals spurned. On another day one or two of those chances would go in. As such, I will likely remain a nervous wreck until we have 3 goal lead for a while yet.

So how much do you think we can get for Clive, then?
On the original post, I'm having a hard time believing that there is all that interest in BOS. It is only fairly recently that he has been starting games. He has always shown potential but even in football a player doesn't go from free transfer to being worth 20 million after 5 great games.

We Should Be Getting More Penalties
at 16:45 18 Jan 2020
With BOS, Eze, and Chair dribbling their way into the box repeatedly I’m every game, we should be getting more penalties. Trouble is, they are ‘too’ honest and work too hard to stay on their feet and see the move through. Any opponent dribbling into the box against us is guaranteed to go flailing down three times a game at least one would be called a penalty. Glad to see that the lads care more about playing football than cheap tricks. Their runs must scare the pants of defenders.

Half time couldn't come soon enough. Time to take a breath, regroup and refocus. I don't think any QPR fans expect this one to end 1-0.

An appalling half of football. QPR seem to have completely abandoned our identity; resolutely refusing to run with the ball and trying long balls up into the much larger Brentford defensive line. Has BOS forgotten that he is allowed to run with the ball?

Masterson, Shodipo & Dalling
at 20:00 5 Jan 2020
Shadipo had a hand in both of the last two goals. For Wallace's goal, it was Shadipo's cross that bobbled around and ended up coming out to Wallace who lashed it into the net. For the last goal, the ball went Shadipo, Kane, Scowen, net!
Dalling looked lively. He was eager to get on the ball and brought energy and urgency. Teally good to see.
Masterson formed a strong partnership at the back. Was a bit slow to come out for their goal but that was the only foot he put wrong.

You realize that you are going to have to keep walking to the ground, right? With a bit of luck, you'll be shedding pounds and building stamina all the way to the end of the season.!
Does BOS's development remind anyone else of Sir Les?
at 18:02 5 Jan 2020
No. Doesn't remind me of Sir Les at all. Very different sort of player, really. Both are great and both score goals. That is where the comparison ends. BOS is an attacking winger. Sir Les was an out-and-out striker. Just very different. Also, when Sir Les became a QPR regular he already had a lot of football under his belt. BOS started getting games for us very early in his football career. So different style of play and different career development.
Sir Les is one of my favourite player all time. BOS is one of my favourtie player in the squad at the moment. So, there is that similarity.

Agreed. Ball is turning into a very handy player and a critical part of the puzzle. I always think we look more sturdy with Cameron in the side and today was no exception. Also thought Kane had a good game. These players will (understandably) be overlooked in the glut of goals and silky skills. But without them, the flair players wouldn't be able to flair. If you know what I mean.
Best goal Scowen or Wallace?
at 17:23 5 Jan 2020
Scowen's was better but Wallace's was more important (given the flow of the game).
The way Scowen brought the ball down to create space for himself and then lashed the ball in first time was masterful. He doesn't score often but he has had some thundering close things. Delighted for him to get such a great goal. I thought he did very well today and deserves a bit of glory.

Yes and no. He has been getting more playing time recently. Each time he gets on the field he shows flashes of potential and in the last few games it has been a lot more. Obviously, that run and goal showed us that there was more behind the potential and since then he has started a few in a row. This was by far the most complete performance. I wish he hadn't been substituted because it felt like he would've got a hatrick if he had a bit more time.
The maddening thing about BOS, Eze, and Chair (maddening may be too strong a word TBH) is that whenever they run with the ball it causes problems and whenever the dribble into the box we look dangerous. All three should be given carte blanche to run with the ball and dribble into the box at every possible opportunity. Look we scored three against Cardiff from dribbling into the box (BOS twice and Chair). I'm surprised that we haven't yet gotten a penalty off one of those runs but it has to be only a matter of time.
Loving what I'm seeing and feel like it will only get better.
