Yet talk to most Spurs fans and they really don’t rate him.
For me he has that pace which I think is essential in a full back - and once he grew in confidence, I thought he was a real threat going forward |

This. I was screaming at the TV for France to add a player in midfield. They never laid a glove on them in the middle and the front 4 just don’t do anything to get the ball back. |

Not a film, but went to see Les Miserables some years ago - had to leave at the interval. Complete and utter tosh. American women crying behind me at how emotional it all was. |

Use the Guruwalks app for the free walking tours ( you pay the guide a 15/20 euro tip each). DId general main sight tours on the first day and the Second World War / Communism tours the next day. Brilliant but quite harrowing. Take the ferry from Bratislava to Vienna, it’s about 90 minutes but nicer scenery and much easier to get to ferry rather than the train station. Budapest centre is nice but very popular and can be expensive. Bratislava is tiny so depends what your plan is. Lots of places to sit around and drink etc, but Devin castle is nearby if you want a visit. |

Just got back from a month Interrailing around Central Europe - Strasbourg, Munich, Prague, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Bad Ischl, Salzburg and Paris. Lots to see and do, learned a lot I didn’t know - A few of this countries had, shall we say, a ‘forgettable’ 20th Century. |

Agreed. Up to a point. But a lot of changes are at least dressed up in suggesting a better outcome for the consumer (Faster / Cheaper / Better). This doesn’t even pretend to do any of those things. |

This has been irritating me / confusing me so maybe someone can reason with me.
This feels like a problem that doesn’t need solving. Black cabs, Uber, mini cabs all relatively easy to get and certainly in the case of black cabs provide some level of safety and security. Plus it gives employment to many thousands of drivers.
‘This development will make a handful of people very rich at the expense of many people. At the risk of sounding like a Luddite, why is this being allowed to happen? |

I don’t have any facts or stats to support this, purely the eyeball test. It seems as though teams have worked out that stopping Madsen playing is key to stifling us. Our front 2 get some criticism but for me the biggest let down over the last few games has been our wide players. They don’t seem to really get in the game and take on teams offensively and I’m not convinced by some of their defensive output. I’d like to see them showing more and giving options to take some of the pressure off. |

Amongst all of the tactical changes, one of the ones that was really noticeable from where we were standing was that Poku was rarely wide on the right and seemed to essentially be playing in an inside forward role. It seemed very deliberate and didn’t seem to work well as it meant he was either feeding off scrappy second balls, or getting it with his back to goal, not his strength. I think it also limited our ‘out’ ball on the right. |

Agreed - although I thought he was poor, I think he needs a chance of a run of games, even as sub - dropping him in for the odd away game when half the team is rotated and the shape is changed can’t do much for his confidence |

I would have ripped your arm off last year for a calm mid-table finish. As I was sitting in a 30 minute traffic jam outside the Hawthorns I was less well-balanced, but what I’ve liked this year is that with 1 or 2 notable exceptions, we’ve been in with a chance in the games that we’ve played.
It’s obvious that we struggle when we don’t have our ‘strongest’ 11 out, it’s also been obvious for years that when we try to play that 11 relentlessly (Beale era for e.g.) we end up decimating the team through injuries, often long term ones. So, we have to rotate, and that’s when some of the combinations look questionable. Esquerdinha looks exposed at the moment, particularly behind Saito. That said, some of the players who’ve been picked every week, e.g. Varane were looking very leggy.
I think this is probably a familiar story for most teams in this division [Post edited 30 Dec 2025 13:33]

Might be obvious to some, but I feel that a very significant contribution to last 2 home performances has been our 2 full backs. Mbengue gives his winger absolutely nothing, and RN-D in a slightly less showy way is also stopping any team making any inroads down the side. When you compare the joy that our wide players are having this season, it feels pretty significant. It also means that our centre backs are not being pulled out of positions and exposed through a lack of pace. |
