There is a Jam Museum in Tiptree , Essex including such memorable exhibits as ‘marmalade’s contribution to the 2nd world war’. I kid you not. |

12 corners and numerous free kicks and never once looked like scoring from any of them. We never try anything different or even simple things like putting a player in front of of their goalie. Why isn’t Madsen taking them? At the same time we concede two shambolic goals from free kicks against Ipswich. Do we have a ‘set piece’ coach? If so, who is he and what has he been doing? In Norrie speak, is the issue methodology or performance? |
 | Forum Reply | Walsh/Nardi 🙌 at 15:18 14 Sep 2025
The big positive for Nardi is his distribution. In my view this more than compensates for his failure to collect crosses. When passing or throwing the ball to defenders he shows a confidence and ability to quickly find a player in space. In comparison, Walsh hesitates and is too predictable, immediately putting the defender under pressure. Also when Nardi went direct yesterday he often kicked sensibly towards Dunne rather than an aimless boot forward. Going back to problem with crosses, this wasn’t helped by Wrexham putting someone directly in front of him at corners with no QPR defender standing between them. At one corner, he was bundled to the floor and only just got up in time to make a save. |

Thanks Clive, it’s really good news that the management appear to have recognised the value of being more open with LFW. JS generally comes across well. One part where he was struggling was in trying to answer the question re team selection for Plymouth. Despite twice stating that it was his decision, he couldn’t help but then refer to ‘we decided’ a few times afterwards. A less than convincing reply. |

First half was above all expectations given our pre-season displays and the lineup. However, Preston brought us down to their level in the 2nd. I thought that Morgan looked great at right back and, on that showing has to be competition for Dunne, let alone Adamson. Also Madsen had a really good 1st half and showed that a CM pairing of him and Field is possible. He took on his defensive duties well and his distribution was miles above anyone else. |

I didn’t think that the goal was Mbengue’s fault, as he was up for the corner. It was down to whoever was meant to be staying back to watch the Preston forward. |

Many thanks Clive. Brilliant work and I totally agree with your comments re Sheffield Wednesday ownership. So, I guess that leaves 18th place for QPR. Can you remind me where you placed us last year? |

That’s harsh on Madsen. He hardly ever saw the ball but as mentioned above, provided the pass that lead to the second goal. He needs the ball to his feet but was never going to see it given the way we played today. What was worrying was not so much individual performances as the fact that, as a team, we looked like we had no idea how to press, deal with their press, bring the ball forward or cope with their wingers. |

And where is Chair? Also Joe Walsh from only goalkeeper to not in the squad. Are they just being rested? |

Clive, Jim, Dave, thanks very much. It was really good to get your thoughts and your (gallows) humour. As a Rangers fan of 50 years, you learn to accept the farce as part and parcel of the club. One thing that puzzles me is - where is Lee Hoos in all this? He is the only member of the Board with any experience of running a football club, he is still chairman and yet he appears to have had no involvement in any of this shambles. When CN took over as CEO, Hoos was going to be there to provide support and experience. Where is he now? Is he still backing CN or just keeping his head down? |

If my memory serves me correctly, the last match thread started by Ted was Cardiff away and Celar’s (brief) moment of glory. I predict 3-0 and a hatrick for Madsen. In Ted we trust. |

Hence the avatar. I still remember his headed goal against Burnley the year we got promoted. He was written off as not being good enough for Div 1 but he still made a good contribution including the year we finished runners up. He did all the hard graft in midfield but, as mentioned above could also show some good skill and a great temperament. |

I remember the season well - our first back in the 1st division under Gordon Jago. Away at West Ham stands out. We had already played 6 or 7 games and played well but without winning including 0-0 at home to West Ham on a week night where we had 3 goals disallowed. After a Saturday 3-3 draw v Stoke we then went to Upton Park for the return fixture. Remember in our only previous season in Division 1, we had never won away from home and never beaten a London club so a win at West Ham was huge. We tore them apart in the first half, Don Givens scoring two typically clinical goals , running through on the left side. In the second half they got a goal back but Rob Abbott , up from defence for a corner got the third . After that we were fairly comfortable despite a late 2nd goal for WHU. As a teenager I can remember being impressed/surprised with the sound the QPR fans made throughout. A great night. |

I don't think it is too much to ask for three Preston players being substituted for (relatively) minor injuries that will rule them out for Saturday, the last injury being caused by a foul which results in a mass punch up and one player from each side being sent off. Oh yes, and a tyre puncture on the M1 on the way home. |
