Athleticism, power, strength — Hughes lays cards on the table
at 01:10:23

Very good breakdown on our new ones.
Very excited by a forward line of Zamora and Cisse. As you say Cisse comes highly regarded from both S'land and L'pool fans, that speakes volumes for me.
Also agree we got Onouha on the cheap compared to the real value for a player of his calibre. Straight A student as well, very rare for a footballer, top bloke in my book.

Zamora's contract is 2,5 years though, not 4,5.

Second time unlucky for QPR as Sturridge cons Dean — full match report

Godd write up Clive.

The two banks of four reminds me a lot of WBA after Hodgson arrived there last season. It saved them, lets hope the same applies to us.

Ambitious Hughes takes intriguing career move to QPR
at 01:10:34

"I want Kelly Brook to climb into the shower with me tomorrow morning and remark on what a big boy I am."

"In the end he got Alex McLeish which is like heading out for a takeaway only to find your usual place closed and eating a dead dog you found round the back by the bins instead."

Those two are absolutely legendary Clive! I honestly forgot how to breath after that last one.

I've been a big admirer of Sparky for a long time and he was my suggestion to succeed Roy Hodgson at Anfield, so I'm obviously over the moon and have been since it first looked possible.
Your point of his knowledge of the European transfer market is where my biggest expectations lie. I am a big fan of the Bundesliga so it goes without saying I hope he keep on picking up steals from Germany like Samba, Santa Cruz, Kompany and De Jong.

And regarding Tony's pockets, rumours are there are some serious backers funding this madness, stay tuned and hopefully we'll find out more.

Fernandes gambles everything on Warnock sacking
at 13:35:37

Great, great article Clive.

Whether Neil Warnock got the transfer window ruined by the Goons doesn't matter. He got dealt a poor hand before his PL comeback, tough luck, but TF can not take that into consideration. We're over halfway through the season and got three weeks left of the transfer window. We've had an alarming slide in the table AND in the performance of the team. For me TF hands were tied, if we are to survive it had to be done, end of. It would have been great to give Neil a full season, he certainly deserved to. But we would be relegated come may. Now Neil can go with his head held high and forever live in our memories as the legend he was.

Thank you Neil for everything, especially for bringing pride back to our club, but also last seasons fantastic promotion. Thanks to Mick and Keith as well, best coaching staff in ages.

QPR aggrieved by Norwich’s lesson in dark arts — full match report
at 12:39:09

Thank you Clive for a well written and accurate report. I understand it's hard for a Norwich fan to see their team for what they really are, a bunch of cheats. All orcestrated by their manager, who of course gets of scotch free.

And thank you for pointing out Holt's contribution to the red card. Everyone bleating on about him doing the exact opposite, when in fact as you say he ran 40 yards (i thought 60 yards, but that might be to generous on that fat cheat) to tell the refs what he's seen perfectly positioned 40-60 yards away.

But apart from the apauling refereing display, we also have to look closer to home. It's difficult to critise NW team selections during a hectic christmas period, but it stops now! Starting with the FA cup match we need to see a settled eleven for a consecutive amount of games, if NW fails with that then i'm afraid he don't know what he's doing anymore.

I'm with Clive on the draw here though, and your point that our defence is lacking at this level.

Festive period ideal opportunity for Warnock to practise what he preaches — match preview
at 12:12:46

continue from above:
...then thats reason good enough to play him.
Not had a good feeling about this one for quite sometime but now i'm starting to think that wouldn't it be just typical of us to get something out of this one?

Cheeky and overly optimistic, a 1-0 win to the R's! Barton to net the winner.

On to the game then. If the Swansea players fear Taarabt half as much as their supporters

Gone in 60 seconds, United teach QPR harsh lessons — full match report
at 22:52:21

Very impressed by both Webb and Rooney, they are supposedly the best this country has to offer and i must say they both delivered. And you're right about Jones, 19 with an enormous potential. Maybe its because its against one owns team that you really notice and appriciate just how good these professionals are. But have to say Rooney' the best player we have been up against, better than both Silva and Suarez that both where brilliant. His hold up play, movement and vision was something to behold. The gulf in class from what we've been used to for years is there for everyone to see. That said, this is not the games we should be looking to win, and a lot of what i've seen from Bolton, Wolves, B'burn etc. says that we're in with a good chance of staying up.

On to the players then. Both Barton and Faurlin we're miles away from being competetive enough. Faurlin' poorest performance since the promotion, so many missed passes he should hold his head in shame (too harsh???). He had several like Bartons pass for Carricks goal, only luck that none led to a goal against. And while we're on Carricks goal, how on earth can we let him run a good 60 yards unchallenged??? and let's not get started on Cerny contribution on the goal, should have been an easy save (that apart Cerny had another blinder). Another great match report Clive but an 8 for Cerny, come on?! Should have been a 7. His flapping at crosses and command of the area was very poor and he should as i said above never let in that tame effort from Carrick. But you where on to Connolly who for me was our top performer, not by a country mile but just shading the likes of Cerny and Gabbidon.

Can't agree with your "addoration" (kidding) with Boothroyd as watching him plat is massively underwhelming, but i agree 100% re your criticism of the booers whos actions are flabbergasting!

Karski and Rblockpat, spot on re Taarabt. Unless there is reasons unknown for not letting him play he should be given a proper go up until new year. Looks a lot fitter and hungrier than in a long time. Should get a start ahead of either SWP, Mackie or Boothroyd and accomodate the line-up accordingly.

Does West Brom visit herald second chance for Taarabt? — Full Match Preview
at 10:26:29

Thanks Clive, great read! Brilliant about John Spencer, couldn't agree more, lost opportunity BIG TIME.

Re the WBA game, i'm actually quite relaxed knowing we have our heart/engine back (Barton and Faurlin), combined with our brilliant full backs in Young and Traore we'll give anybody a match.
That said, my only worry is the goalkeeping situation. Not because i think Cerny' a poor goalie, but because for me thats the most important position in a team. Can't see Cerny giving the defence the same confidence Kenny does.
And when they correct this failing in our squad, hopefully in january, it's that NW brings in a better understudy to Kenny than Murphy

at 00:33:04

Young out is the biggest blow in my mind among the injured crop, Barton equally big.
Really hope Traore can play as his pace will be vital, brings better balance than Hill to the eleven. And i actually think One Size is better equipped to partner Ferdinand than Hill.
With Barton out we'll need a fully united team effort to get something from this game, this unfortunately leaves Adel on the bench as i'm itching to see him back. Though it would be interesting to see how he'll perform without Barton in the mix...

It didn't take a genious to work us out last year, "Stop Stan Bowles" Clough said in "The Damned United", "Stop Adel Taarabt" was all you had to do last season. This time around i think Lambert' task is a little bit harder.

Kenny - Orr, Ferdinand, Hall, Traore - Mackie, Derry, Faurlin, SWP - Boothroyd - Helguson (4-4-1-1). Not a bad side??

Norwich achieving Premiership success 'the Norfolk way' - opposition focus

Grant Holt looks unbelievably fit in that picture!

Good scout report, Pilkington the man to watch for me.

I also echo your sentiment re "Norwich". For me they have always been a club i quite fancied. But after last season, with a combination of media and the Canary fans invading our messageboards i can't stand them anymore!

Helguson inspired QPR heap misery on dire Stoke — full match report
at 10:38:07

Great report and a wonderful win against the hoof merchants. Think your ratings are spot on, very close to my own ;-)

Just wondering if you caught the whole towel incident? During the second half the ref went to speak to the Stoke dug out re use of towels at throw ins. This was the reason why one of the Stoke coaching staff got sent to the stands imo. And if you look closely, Delap didn't use towels towards the end, had to use his t-shirt underneath his jersey. The same goes for Clint Hill who also used the towel in the first half. The cameras caught it and zoomed in when Stoke staff "smugled" a towel to a ball boy. Do you know if there is new rules laid down by the FA/refs? Would be welcomed if so.

Plaudits but no points for QPR after brave City effort — full match report
at 11:19:17

Very good report and i like that we have the same take on Citys second goal and that Traore is not to blame though his cross led to a perfect counter attack.

It is clear to see that we have a lot more quality after Fernandes's spending, Traore, Ferdinand and Barton all showing their quality and experience. Bothroyd played a blinder, believe his pass accuracy was a whopping 92%! And it's great to see Helguson proving all the doubters wrong, he has the experience to do the job at this level.

Unfortunately i'm not convinced that we'll approach the next three games in the same manner, even if we try, it's typical QPR to roll over once the opponents not as illustrious as Chelsea, Spurs (2nd half) and City. I pray the team prove me wrong. Just trying to stay grounded :-)
