Marti song
at 22:07 11 Dec 2023

I’m absolutely convinced that when I went to the Rotherham game the last line was sung as ‘his football is magic’? Then when I went to my next match, Norwich A, it had changed to the Chelsea reference.

Does anyone else agree or am I going a bit crazy?

But it was exactly that type of thinking that got us in trouble in the first place…

‘We’ve got to keep Austin, Johansen…etc’

If the right offer (and it must be the right amount) comes in for either; we sell and re-invest.

What’s the Only Fools and Horses song??
at 22:06 29 Apr 2023

Went today. First away game since Rotherham. Loved it, best atmosphere for some time!

What was the song about ‘Rangers away’ sung to the Only Fools and Horses theme?

Where does Ainsworth go from here?
at 20:18 22 Mar 2023

It doesn’t take a lot of searching to find the numerous quotes from people like Clint Hill and others about Warbs doing absolutely no defensive work in training. I’d suggest we have some very little for some time. The current trend is for a ‘halcyon times’ re-write of the Warbs Era making him sound like some kind of Messiah. The truth is that we were well in danger of going down had the ‘cavalry’ (excuse the pun) of Austin, Johansen, De Wijs and Field arrived.

Long Throws
at 10:35 20 Mar 2023

This absolutely. I know Lyndon had that horrific effort but he genuinely has a bomb of a long throw. Drewe doesn’t, and although I know you’d want Lyndon in the box we have enough big targets in there to allow him to take a few.

That ‘Kelman is the best finisher at the club’ line is Gold. Up against Lyndon and Bonne, my mum’s in the Top 2!!!

Don’t get too attached. Many of these will have to be sold/let go in the summer. They’ve done their jobs today though.

Charlie,
I really like your stuff and you’re doing a great job. My one bit of feedback is I think your questions meander a little. Have your question ready and ask it. They’re usually really good and if the interviewee doesn’t understand it, they can ask for clarification.

Good luck with future interviews, look forward to seeing them.

QPR Finances released
at 21:44 6 Mar 2023

Surely the key point that isn’t always being picked up on here is not so much our impending fire sale, but what is happening in the other Champ clubs.

We can’t be the only ones in this situation as alluded to in the Preston example in Simons article.

If West Brom don’t go up this year they must be in all kinds of trouble and surely the perennials of Reading, Brum etc must be hovering around that precipice too?

Maybe things are bad for us but are at the lesser end of bad compared to many others?

I’m guessing the £8.5m spent on the new training ground does not go into the FFP calculation or is that already taken out of the losses?

Whilst I disagree with nothing you have written Clive, I feel I need to offer one comment which doesn’t quite follow the same line.

My last two games were Cov and yesterday. The away support at both has been numerically impressive, but my God, we don’t make a peep of noise.

Now, you could say ‘that’s because the performances are so bad’, but at both matches we haven’t been out of the game until late or even at all.

And yet there’s - almost - nothing. Very little singing, a couple of songs about Seny and that’s your lot. Please realise Im not defending the players here, they were fecking awful yesterday, but I just depair at the absolute lack of atmosphere.

Home isn’t that much better either. I know we’ve been hit hard by Beale and our drop in form but we need to find our voice as fans even if it’s to tear the players insipid performance apart. There were even very few boos yesterday…🤦‍♂️

Football League clubs taking cut of gamblers’ losses with SkyBet
at 11:25 29 Sep 2022

Any gambling company is paying for sponsorship out of their profits, which is basically the same thing. I struggle with the holier than thou aspect of the criticism of bookmaker sponsors, most people rave about our Guinness top which is open to all the same abuse.

Like most things, it's everything in moderation. I'm a very small stakes gambler, set a very strict budget and understand fully that 'tipsters' will share account opening deals for a cut of the profit. I totally understand that some may be tempted to chase losses/gamble more than they should, but there is genuinely so much awareness of this raised by the industry now compared to years ago.

I also watched in the red button and found it hard to distinguish Balogun and Dunne when you couldn’t see their backs! Picture quality so poor. However, thought back line as a whole were 8.5:10

Yes. Rightly or wrongly, they have brought in millions of quid in transfer fees from clubs (potentially also owned or closely linked to) their own chairman, for bang average players. They also bring in far more money than we do, having a stadium that holds nearly 30k.

I’ll say it again and for a variety of reasons, the only man for this job is Gareth Ainsworth.
