Another sponsor bites the dust

Still going strong?

Not sure about that when you look at their numbers.

Minimal net worth and working capital.

Wish him well, like Roy is a grafter, but maybe our lot should do their 'fit & proper' due diligence before agreeing to these sponsorship deals.

Brian, you saw it right, raise your profile, no doubt employ a consultant to lobby for an honour, bag said honour, get various non exec roles, move on up, fair play to the lad, you gotta fake it to make it, sometimes..

Bush lad but was a Spurs fan when I knew him in 80's / 90's

Fair play, we helped raise his profile, awarded OBE for services for Social Mobility, we move on.

Next season - 4 key players for us to keep
at 11:51 25 Apr 2024

Good post, agree with most, not all,

Just really depends on Cifuentes preferred formation and attacking style of play which I have'nt really been able to work out yet,

Going without saying the absence of a fully fit Chris Willock has blunted our attacking play this season and have mentioned before we need to re-position Chair if we're ever to see him hit the numbers he should be,

I'd risk selling JCS and Paal as believe Dunne & Larkeche can adequately replace, big question for this summer is to either re-position or sell Chair.

All depends on the Managers preferred playing style and formations next season,

We seen Cifuentes' initial preference for 4-3-3 although it became apparent pre-transfer window we did'nt have 3 fit Midfielders who were good enough to play 4-3-3 so we reverted to 4-2-3-1 which suited the players available pre-window,

Being unable to afford Hadeyn and Hodge, our 1st choice Midfielders next season are likely Field / Colback / EDB, which is decent but unlikely a top 10 midfield,

If we stay with 4-2-3-1 we cannot call it until we know what Willock's plans are for next season, likely away,

If Willock goes we need to really work what our attacking style is as a team as I hav'nt seen one this year, and other than a few games, we've been very cautious in the numbers committed to attack,

Be interested to know if Cifuentes ever plays 3-5-2 as this could be an option next year with:

JCS / Cook / Dunne
Larkeche / Field / Colback / EDB / Smyth
Dykes / New 2nd Striker

Selling assets wise, I would sell Paal (as rate Larkeche) and the brown or bust decision is selling Chair, if we can get £5m+ I'd cash in, as similar to Grealish at City, Chair slows our attacking play down by taking too many touches, big call as £5m does'nt buy you much but maybe its time to take that gamble and develop a new attacking style of play.

Marti Cifuentes?

Have seen small improvements, very occasional left foot cross, very occasional early cross, so with time Marti might be able to improve his game and double his value, which is what we need from our Manager & Coaches.

Watched highlights link above last night,

Loved watching him play at ours, was obviously such a special talent and when I see this I do think:

1) How did so many of our fans under-rate him? (no real surprise I suppose reading our forums & social media)

2) How did Ilias Chair go to work with a master craftsman 5 days a week, not look over and just learn the art of playing with your head up and playing a first time pass?

Eze had a hand in maybe all 5 goals and the common denominator was the 1st time pass, not the hokey kokey in out in out for that lad, head up and pass it!

McAnuff saying he must have been thinking ahead and looking to launch counter attack hence fumble,

Still good movement + anticipation by Dykes and an excellent controlled finish from a difficult angle.

Player of the season

Thats b'cos if you only see him twice a season you don't realise he has very little end product,

Like the lad alot but head up, one touch, play the pass first time and occasionally beat the first man with your corners and you'd have a point,

Scored a couple of tap-in's lately which changed his stats for the season, before those couple of goals his stats were really poor,

Never hides, works his socks off, brilliant at ball retention but over-rated by our fans compared to opposition scouts & managers, hence no bids when we could'nt give players away.

Sam Field,

Has been key to defensive midfield in 2nd Half of the Season, providing defensive shield for our Centre Backs stopping direct runners in this space,

Also never went missing in 1st Half of the Season when JCS in particular but Cook also were just not stepping up for me and too often passed responsibility to others,

Over the course of the season, I'd go:

1) Field
2) Dunne (likewise never hid)
3) JCS (edges Cook for me in recent games, going through their player late in 2nd Half was just not a challenge he was making earlier in the season, knew it was a key challenge yesterday as breakaway was on, took a moment to think and then put his body on the line and went straight through their player)

Dykes couldn’t hit a cows arse from 3 feet, think you might have missed a key moment in yesterdays game fella.

Yes, and noticeable Willock was’nt, Dunne pulled him a few times and then Sam properly gave it to him, really Captaincy stuff I saw in that moment, you been told twice now, you’re still not doing it and gave him both barrels, Sam wasn’t giving up those points yesterday.

We have some special fans, I think the 3 or 4 playmakers you refer to are actually also called forwards, we usually play with 4 of them.

Removing Dozzell from the defensive midfield role meant our CB’s have had an excellent defensive screen 2nd half of the season, this has been key.

And compared to Charlie Austin who mugged off the club & its fans twice (not to mention clearing his corporate box out of beers for carry-outs after home games as....'they were included in his package')...............

Lyndon Dykes has always been fit and available to play, even after a bout of pneumonia, never turned up over-weight, never sat in the stand on being substituted undermining the Managers authority, never double jobbed on the radio nor criticized the club and his colleagues on live radio.

There, thought I'd bring a bit of context (tin hat firmly secured for incoming, lol).

Might'nt be the best but does his best and like last season is the best of the rest so maybe as a fan give him your support.

Agree, only need to consider the chances missed in recent games to ask this question of our coaching staff, maybe its instinct and just un-coachable,

But there's definitely other aspects of our players development where you just see no improvement year on year (eg Ossie's positional play to pick one of a few obvious examples)

All our forwards (and I include the 10's as they are forwards) have struggled for goals this season, excluding Frey but Dykes & Armstrong's stats are abysmal as are Willock's & Chair's (although a return to fitness Willock offered up a couple of tap-ins for Chair which improved his previously worst ratio of goals per minutes played of all our Forwards).

Reasons why is the million dollar question?

Other than usual knee-jerk posters I'd suggest Ainsworth's half-season in charge, Cifuentes getting to know the squad (and in my opinion over-rotating and not using his subs effectively eg Frey comes on & Smyth goes off etc) amongst other lesser factors (points deficit, league position etc)

Also think a key reason was using Chair & Willock as wide wingers which they are not rather than playing them closer together (where they are more effective) and both players and Dykes (who cant beat a man on the turn) were far more effective under Warburton's system using Wing-Backs as made the 10's (particularly Chair) less predictable and easy to mark and Dykes the opportunity to face and attack crosses cut-back from the bye-line by the likes of Wallace, Moses etc who could actually cross rather than aimlessly whack the ball as hard as possible while running at full speed,

Easy to say Dykes is rubbish, Willock is unfit / disinterested and Chair is tired / distracted but ultimately this comes down to our formation, tactics and this seasons Managers.

Play Chair left, Willock in the middle and Smyth (or Andersen) wide to protect Dunne and our attacking play would improve as would reverting to Cifuentes preferred 4-3-3 formation as post transfer window we now have 3 midfielders who can play in a 3 (Field / Colback / Hadeyn) which we could'nt pre-window with Dozzell and Colback injured or banned.

Three is the cursed number as QPR fall in a hole at Hull - Report
at 18:43 15 Apr 2024

1 goal in 21 games for a player of his ability and shooting accuracy is very surprising,

Last played like the Willock of old versus Preston away?

Last linked up with Chair like the old days in this game also? Hopefully a positive omen.

Need these to to play closer together if we are to see the best of them again.

On the basis of Frey's last run out versus Birmingham, that's the definition of insanity.

Still Stuart Wardley & Conor Washington scored goals at this level with limited ability so maybe Frey can to, just don't let him near another penalty kick!
