The difference between good Varane and bad Varane is too big. When he's good he's out best option in midfield due to his athleticism but when he's bad he coughs up possession too easily and fails in tracking back effectively. Needs to get his head straight and deliver consistently good performance. Can't keep doing half a good game followed up by half a bad game. A game or two on the bench should deliver that message. |

Some were desperate for him to name an unchanged team and stop tinkering. Can't please everyone. |

I think he's almost universally respected as a top pro and an all round good bloke. Doesn't make it wrong to point out that RND is a more natural full back and offers more going forward or that Sam's distribution can be a bit dodgy. It would be interesting to see how he got on if given 5 games alongside Madsen. There's not much if anything that Varane does that field can't do. They're pretty similar. I guess they see more potential resale value in Varane. |

I love the sound of midfielders like that and I think Madsen is actually on the way there. We can't afford to buy players with all of those attributes so as you say, it has to be coached. Someone's done some good work on Madsen over the summer so I wouldn't give up on Varane yet and I think Morgan has the potential. |

I thought Varane was fine tonight and did okay against Hull. He's become a bit of a target for some and admittedly his performances earlier in the season weren't great but as some have pointed out, we've won two on the trot with a midfield 2 of Madsen and Varane so they can't be doing too badly. Happy to stick with them both in those positions for now. |

He did a job. He's a solid pro. But RND is a better full back than him so I'd rather watch the team play with him in it. Field is a better CDM than RND but how we're trying to play at the moment, there's not really a starting place for him in the team. It's a shame and if his chances are limited this season then I hope he can find a club where he'll get more games because he doesn't seem the type to want to hang around picking up his wages and not playing. |

I wouldn't want to watch Sam Field at left back every week though. Sure he comes in and does a job and you can never question his commitment but he's possibly our most limited player when in possession. Love the guy but he has his limitations |

Disagree. First half he passed forwards well. Second half whole team has dipped. Burrell can't do the hold up man stuff. Too many poor passes across the team. |

Our XG was 3.6, theirs was 1.1. We were much the better team. Deserved the win. |

Was sat right behind it. It got a bit stuck under his feet which left him unable to generate a huge amount of power. He placed it well and the keeper made a brilliant save. |

Chair was fantastic. Credit to Dembele too who was much better today. Varane sorted himself out in the second half and played well. New keeper an absolute must in January. Their keepers save from Kolli was outstanding |

So much football is dire and I include the premier league in that. I'm amazed by those that find the energy to go week in week out home and away. I've found having a season ticket the last couple of years more than enough. I need those away weekends to get away from it for a week. Play a bit of football, do something else. From that perspective, I'm happy with the point gained today. If I'd got up early travelled at great expense up to Sheffield and watched a game that maybe we could have won if we'd been a bit braver then sure I can also understand why you'd be really frustrated. We all see things from a different point of view. |
