Norwich aren't in bad shape but their job's not as easy as it looks. Still a lot of squad turnover to negotiate, a lot of new players new to the league with old ones uncertain of expected big moves, and above all it remains to be seen if Farke can wipe the slate clean after a long flat season's gob-bumming. Their chief exec made the same bet already with Huddersfield when they went down and lost badly.

That said, can imagine they take half a season to get in the groove and still come out on top with a strong run and a clearer picture in the January window having plenty to spend.

It wouldn't bankrupt us to have to wait until 2022 for a compensatory ruling on BOS leaving out of contract but it'd be far from ideal all the same. It's money we still need to crack on and keep building at a good clip not just survive hand to mouth.

This is simply the difference between a robust and mature development model (where you have your contract ducks lined up, a healthy team in situ that can cope without, and replacements already on the books) and one still in its formative stages like ours. The inconvenience of the timing of when you lose a player is often the very same reason compensation gets big - if you look at the sales of the sort of clubs we talk about in this regard they very, very rarely happen nicely just so at the beginning of summer.

Once other clubs work through their other preferred targets/crank up desperation I think Bright will get his move. May even be a bidding war for a higher fee but its benefits will be mitigated by its lateness. Hopefully as you say it seems we still have the means to find value elsewhere in the meantime - albeit on a smaller scale than perhaps originally intended - and not need to lash it out right away.

You say that but the RB empire is a funny one from a moralistic POV. In branding terms they are the most aggressive and locust-like by far yet they have never bought names and have only ploughed immense sums into an incredible global U23 scouting network with an emphasis on progressive attacking football. If they did ever win the CL it would be hard to say who exactly it'd be one in the eye for - maybe everyone.

With all due respect to the excellence of the work being done at Wolves I don't think it gets more fashionable than a Chinese conglomerate backed super-agent's financial instrument prospering.

Lyon dumping Juve out though was absolutely delicious. Precisely the sort of club Agnelli (perhaps the biggest cnt in football) thinks shouldn't be competing in his ideal closed shop Super League racket.

"When I saw Bamba I thought, 'I wish I could get him because he's an accident waiting to happen. He was (Franz) Beckenbauer, dribbling, losing it, just pleasing himself. I remember saying to him, 'If I could get hold of you, I would make you a player.'

Different position but Hoilett would also be a good comparison. Confidence, seeing clearly what a player's good at, compensating around him for everything he isn't.

Really don't know what you could base an opinion on at this point.

I think Coventry might be quite good. That's about it.

Same. Beggars can't be choosers dread is only growing. I'm expecting something Streatham Rovers would be proud of at this point.

Brentford fire sale affects our market
at 13:32 7 Aug 2020

"Fire sale"... righto. Which one of us needs to sell more again?

It might have a knock on but I doubt it. You're probably not going to want Eze and Benrahma in the same side but they're not exactly the same player either - clubs ought to know already who suits better. If they don't we're going to be the cheaper option so you could look at it the other way around potentially.

Still only one bid on the table from Bruges for BOS incidentally.

What I would be more concerned about is them now staying around to move for players we might have had an interest in. So far Rob Dickie has been the only mooted clash but I'm not sure we're really that dead keen on him as another left sided CB to the likely tune of £3m. If for instance they fancied Goode though we'd be in bother.

Was more the couple of stupid sending offs and penalty concessions that did for Scowen than missing chances (also think MW was more concerned with the pass retention). Still inexplicable how the online vitriol caught fire so badly with him though. I know it's one loser outlier but not sure I've ever been as ashamed at supporting this club with the dad stuff personally.
