When I say "supposed to like", I mean I like the genre of music, I know people love their music, I should like them based on my other tastes but actually I can't bloody stand them.
Here's a few of mine.. David Bowie - never heard a track I actually like Iggy Pop - supposed to be an icon but again I couldn't name a single track Foo Fighters - I love guitar bands but I just don't get them Eminem - I love plenty of rap and people worship this guy but I can't stand his whiny voice.
Who are yours?

If you don’t like the Beatles then “you’ve got dead ears, mate”.
Lennon and McCartney were hands down the greatest songwriting partnership of all time. It was like having Mozart and Beethoven in the same band.
George Harrison was no slouch but he couldn’t get a look in either.
People will still be listening to the Beatles centuries from now. There is no other band with that level of genius.
Their cultural impact was immense. I hate to think what pop music would have been like now if they’d never have existed.
Not sure you could suggest that Lennon & McCartney were the greatest song writers of all time, Come on Yellow Submarine + She Loves You Yeh Yeh Yeh + Twist & Shout can never be classed as classics.( perhaps Imgine by Lennon was). They were pretty cheesy. I certainly wouldn't knock the Beatles because they appealed to so many people but just not my thing.

But those songs are still known 60+ years later. The Beatles broke new ground. British bands just didn't write their own stuff. They opened the door for so many as they insisted on writing their own music (George Martin wanted them to release "How do you do...." which Freddie and the Dreamers released.
Yellow Submarine is basically a kids song which everyone knows. It's origin is pretty dark though, and was another Lennon cry for help
Twist and Shout was a cover. And also.covered by Ferris Bueller
Queen are the band I don't get. I know they were brilliant, but just not for me (though like a few songs)

The bit people miss with the Beatles is that a lot of stuff sounds cheesy now because it's been with us for our entire lives.
What they made at the time - or at least when they left their skiffle/rock and roll phase - sounded nothing like anything else around and is the basis for much of our music now.
So we listen to it out of that context and it sounds so familiar it's cheesy.
But put them in the context of the time and they were groundbreaking.
One thing i always find interesting is to listen to classic songs as part of listening to the singles chart of when they came out, you'll often hear a significant difference between those things we think are proper classics compared to the stuff around it
Thats the point eh ? no reason why we like genres , country for me love all the classics " you`re the reason our kids are so ugly " ( Conway Twitty/Loretta Lynn) .

Queen were a bit heavy metal on the first two albums, hit the nail on the head with Sheer Heart Attack their third album and the one that really saw them hit the top, A Night at the opera had Bohemian Rhapsody and was truly ground breaking at the time, after that i lost interest.
Saw them twice both at the Gaumont, November 1974 and then November 1975
