| 5 Things About Charlton 17:58 - Nov 23 with 2284 views | SaintNick | 1. With trains up the shoot the best option was to drive, the best route was almost 120 miles , the same distance as Birmingham City 2. With all of pubs home fans only near the ground, we blagged in the home fan zone, it was cold wet & expensive. 3. The away end at the Valley has awful accessibility, no covered concourses and only two food kiosks for 3,000 people, quite honestly the worst facilities in the division I would think except for perhaps pompey. 4. The view from the away end is actually quite good though as it is raised so even if you are in the front rows you are well above pitch level, the roof means you can make a lot of noise as well. 5, The atmosphere though was awful, even before our scoring spree, their "singing" section seemed to be about 200 people stood up at the back to the lower tier at the opposite end. | |

| 5 Things About Charlton on 18:17 - Nov 23 with 2230 views | Southamptonfan | 1) We also drove up, parked up on the outskirts and got the tube in. 2) Their fans were terrible. Surprising considering I saw them all in the play offs when they invaded the pitch and they looked really passionate. Not yesterday. 3) The away end facilities were dreadful. A bundle of fans queuing up for drinks and food. The toilets were cramped and I have never seen so many stickers on the toilet doors and walls! Full credit to our fans covering up the PFC letters written in pen, with our own stickers! The view of the pitch was good though. As I stated in a other thread, why is there empty seats in a sold out away end, in one particular block? 4) Great to see happy fans again. A few people, who clearly thought we had poor players, couldn't score because we didn't have a striker, thinking it would take time to build a squad, and thought it wasn't the manager's fault, were very shocked about how well we played, starting to realise just how bad Still was. I wasn't shocked. We have good players, lots of goal scorers who either weren't being played or were thoroughly p!ssed off. Without Still, we have won 3 in a row and scored 10 goals. And yesterday ofcourse, was as convincing as we have seen in years. 5) Onwards and upwards. Great result and performance. It was great celebrating in London after the game, singing at train stations, a few drinks and many people saying good result for you today. A nice change. [Post edited 23 Nov 18:32]

| 5 Things About Charlton on 18:43 - Nov 23 with 2136 views | PatfromPoole | Trains from Poole were non-existent. Got to Branksome station just after 5am and nothing arrived for two hours. Thankfully a good mate was driving to Surrey, so got a lift from him and then train from there. Got to London Bridge just after 10.00, and enjoyed beers there before and after the game. Borough Market’s a cracking little area. Arrived at the ground hoping for a 0-0 draw, but Saints were at their unpredictable best. I actually admired quite how many of Charlton’s fans stayed for the duration. I would have left after half an hour. | |

1, Due to engineering works, took direct 6.46 train to Reading, then fast train into Paddington, and in new spoons for Breakfast and beers at London Bridge just after 9am, already some Saints in there, and packed with them by 10am 2. Loads of trains from London Bridge down to Charlton b4 the game 3. Facilities poor at ground, but atmosphere in away end great due to the roof 4. After game took leftfield route via Abbey Wood and Elizabeth Line back to Paddington 5. Had pub stop at Reading on way home, b4 a few more beers in Salisbury to finish off a great day out

Proper old school and non sterile. 4 - The general view is fine but not being able to see all of the goal is a big naff. 5 - Surprised so many stayed as long as they did. 6 - Drive home was slow and idiots doing the usual hog the middle lane 7 - A good day out

Really like the Valley as a ground, it has character it's in between houses and it felt like a proper football ground rather than a bowl 2. The market porter needs to change it's online information as it was shut when we got there about 10am 3. Greenwich after was a lovely place for a drink but jesus christ was it expensive. 4. That was the best performance i've seen in seasons, the first half we absolutely blew them away and it was great to see. 5. The obsession with Nathan Jones is really f*cking weird, yeah he was bad for us but nowhere as bad as some of the managers since yet our fans acted as if he was some kind of ex who'd jilted them at the alter. Very, very odd behaviour.

I don’t think the Market Porter has opened before midday for a few years. We went there after the game, and it was sound in there. Went to The George up the road before the game, which was fine.

We were in the wheatshaft pre game which was pretty quiet so that was decent, considered getting food in borough market but they were charging £13 for a sausage sandwich and like f*ck am i playing that. One other thing i forgot to add in my five things (or six now) is how bad Damion Downs was, i can't think of a professional footballer i've seen that had such a bad first touch. Literally everytime the ball came into him it'd bounce off his foot like he'd got one shaped like a 50p coin and his reading of the game seemed no existent. Surely he has to go down as one of the worst signings we've ever made?

It was smart of Eckert to bring him on at 5-1 up, so that the fans would be a lot less critical of him when he came on, and the fans were supportive of him. But yeah, every time he plays he just looks like a bloke who has won a competition to be on the pitch. Amazed that he scored quite a few goals for Cologne.

I watched the game on T V so couldn’t see all of what he “contributed”. Nonetheless, from what I did see on the TV, the thing that frustrates me is that when he looses the ball he doesn’t tackle back. He appears to simply give up and amble about. Not certain but I believe the commentary suggested that he has a four year contract with us. Hmm.

Anyone thinking Tall Paul was a competition winner getting a fame at top level should have a deck at this charlatan. Who's buying these clowns
| 5 Things About Charlton on 15:54 - Nov 24 with 1238 views | Wints76 | 1. Our train (0730 from Central) was cancelled, but picked up a Southern Service to Havant and got a fast one from there, so arrived 10 mins earlier than planned. 2. Didn't have a beer before the game. This may be the first away I haven't done that at an away since I was about 14. Went straight back after as I had plans for the evening, so just had train cans on the way back. We had to put a Saints fan straight who was behaving like a tw@ on the train 3. Decent ground and I think thr corners may have been filled in since my last visit in 2009. This was also my first win there, though I saw us stuff them at Selhurst in 1990. Away End facilities weren't great, but I didn't need either the toilet or refreshments 4. First half was as good as anything in years. We were fast and direct. Charlton couldn't cope, but Jones did at least make a change for them. Second half was excellent game management. I was willing DD to get a goal but it isn't looking likely. There MUST be a player in there. 5. The Jones abuse was a bit much. It wasn't completely his fault and he was evidently struggling with the stress of it all at SMS. I don't dislike him, and actually find some of his antics quite funny. Another case of wrong man at the wrong time [Post edited 24 Nov 17:51]

Re point 4. I have tried to think there may be a player in there, but I just can’t see it sadly.

| 5 Things About Charlton on 20:52 - Nov 24 with 883 views | saintoaks | 1- 7.23am train from Parkway to Reading was rammed, standing room only, with 4 carriages. Decent train from Reading to Paddington though. 2- Good value for money breakfast and a few beers at the weatherspoons in London Bridge (recommend it) 3- Easy train to the ground, rehearsal for next weeks game at Millwall 4- Good away end, struggled to get a beer though, quite a few empty seats around us. 5- Home by 6 with a few celebratory beers. | | | |
