Once again we approach a season woefully short of quality where we need it
No keeper, AM, you could argue DM, CB and striker really still
we really dont ever learn do we

Still early days in terms of transfers. Same every year and with most clubs. It will all be good, I am sure they have learned from past experiences (fingers crossed !)

On goal keeper signing, it will not be hard to get an upgrade on McCarthy or Bazunu !

We will go with Bazunu, he was good enough two years ago before he got injured, we have Shea Charles and Flynn Downes in the centre of midfield, in the centre of defence assuming we lose Bednarek, Bella-Kotchap & Harwood-Bellis , then we still have Nathan Wood & Ronnie Edwards, both proven at this level, Jack Stephens & Charlie Taylor for experience and youngsters Joshua Quarshie & Joachim Kayi Sanda, I don't think we will bring anyone else in here.

Up front as it stands we have 4 experienced and proven scorers at Championship level plus new signing Damion Downs.

We approach this season with a squad [packed with quality at the level we need when we lnow who has gone and the money we have we can tweak the squad a bit

I am aware that some don't rate Bazunu and i can go with that as football is all about opinions but those that rant about Bazunu often also rant about Manning, so the question is how did we go 23 games unbeaten in the League

We were a play-off team last time and lucky to get promoted. We should be aiming to do a better job this time and part of that should be about having better players.

Bazunu was only in the side because he could play with his feet, which was a major priority for our old friend RM. As a goalkeeper AM was better and we were fortunate that Baz was injured, allowing AM to come into the side. By some miracle RM relented on his total possession tactics with AM in goal and we got through the play-offs.

If we want to get promoted we need a better keeper than either Baz or AM, but I don't think we'll get one because WS hasn't really had a chance yet to see how fallible they both are in a competitive match.

A number of those were draws which should have been wins.

Including a game with an outstanding performance by Johansson of Rotherham (at that time) in a 1-1 draw at home to Rotherham.

Not a result to crow about.

And a 1-1 draw at Watford when Bazunu let one through his hands in the 94th minute.

I think you might get what I am hinting at here.....

There is rumour that Johansson is on Saints radar

Bazunu's stats are very poor in every season he's played bar maybe his spell at Portsmouth. Time we moved him on unless he is happy being our 3rd choice which is the most he should expect.

This would be most welcome.

Although your earlier post on this thread indicates we will be going with Bazunu.

Re your comment on Manning, he played well last season, fair do's.

However in the Championship, he was repeatedly found wanting defensively.

It's a League where you seem to get more crosses into the box than in the Prem (where the play is more intricate), and he regularly made pretty feeble attempts to block crosses.

I'm not convinced he is a player who will prosper from our relegation. Whereas a number of others have shown they are good Championship players.

if a Prem club such as Burnley or Leeds offered us £5 million for him, I would snap their hands off and use the money to sign Johansson from Stoke.

As stated previously, due to our financial situation we need to off load players , preferably for a big fee for some, before we can sign anyone.

Until this happens incoming players will be very few .

Again I’m not sure we are going to get a big a fee as some think we are for the likes of Dibling etc .

I’d say CB and LB we are sorted. I’d like to see a starting RB come in
Defensive midfield we’re also sorted but assuming Fernandez goes we will need an attacking/creative midfielder
Up front if Stewart stays fit and Archer turns up we’ll have time to bed Downs in
I think we could do with a winger who can beat his man and cross the ball
The position I’m most worried about is keeper and I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions but I have to disagree with you Nick on Bazunu. I think we only got promoted because he got injured. McCarthy came in and pulled off a number of saves that Bazunu would never have made plus McCarthy cut out a lot of the playing out from the back 💩 that saw Bazunu gift countless goals
