I think it was a variety of political ideologies that provided this world/leisure mix, not capitalism per se.

Yes, but a free market enables a country to build enough wealth to pay for social programs. Like we have or Scandanavia. The further you move towards the Government owning the means of production the more an economy fails.

So imagine a business man/woman building their wealth and their partner spending it. We can say the partner spent the money on a big TV and a 4x4 which made their leisure time better...but the business man created the wealth to provide it. In this scenario the business person is Capitalism and the person spending the wealth is Socialism....who is providing the comfortable life style?

Good luck, Mr Cooper

A free market enables firms to build enough wealth to pay investors income. Governments pay for social programmes. Unions, amongst others, try to provide workers better working conditions.

A lot of people are very thankful for the minimum wage which a free market would not allow.

South Wales was basically communist not that long ago, its the roots of many people from the valleys.

Continually being banned by Planet Swans for Porthcawl and then being reinstated.

I'm not against social programs, I have said this many times. I don't think pure Capitalism would be a good idea. Most countries are a mix. I often come up against people who say "Capitalism isn't working for us" and then when talking about the good things we have, they say "Well, we are not Capitalist".
But let's put all that aside and let me rephrase it: Communist who want to change our system (which they refer to as evil Capitalism) don't seem to see that the lives we live are similar to what Marx was talking about. They want to tear down this system (which is far from perfect) and replace it with a system that history has shown has dragged countless millions into poverty while dragging none out.

Good luck, Mr Cooper

Rich, that is where most people are. It is just that they vary in how much intervention is required in the marketplace.

Well, you wouldn't put it past the rotters.

What was it Trotsky said? "There are no absolute rules of conduct."It's a green light they have embraced with vigour.
