Does Potter tinker too much? 14:32 - Dec 31 with 1144 viewsjasper_T

The stats may surprise you.

https://experimental361.com/2018/12/31/squad-usage-championship-30-dec-2018/

Okay, probably not.

Average changes per game among highest (with struggling teams), no unchanged lineups all season (struggling Preston only other).

It's well known Bielsa works his players hard in training. Extremely hard.

They've got a squad with average age 24.8.

They've tinkered, made changes, but not excessively. They've looked to keep a settled side mostly

Our squad average age is 25.6 yet most go on about having to play kids and talk of burnout.

There's evidence out there stating that's just rubbish.

No unchanged line up is a shocking statistic. Look at top two, struggling at the bottom.

Happy new year Chris.

Thing is we play mostly youngsters in the first eleven selection. Which reduces us down to 21-23 average age at times.

These kids we are boasting about are 22+, not exactly teenagers . The only way to build match fitness is to play more matches not rest. These are professional athletes and can't play three 90 minutes in a week.

Squad average age irrelevant.

Most used xi with correct weighting taking into account for number of games played places us by some distance the youngest.

But I suppose this doesn't fall in line with your rhetoric :D

It's crazy that Asoro is still in our most-used 11 this season. Doesn't suggest Potter has a clearer idea of his best team than he did in August.

We've used the two youngest starting 11s in the league this season (Forest with Dhanda and no Fer, Derby 5 at the back no Fer) but Brentford are using younger sides more often.

When working out the average, it's not the average age of the squad that's important.

You need to look at the players who are playing, and how often they've played, and work out the average from that.

If we lose then it's 'tinkering'. If we win then it's 'astute squad rotation'.

When we do it’s Potters fault we didn’t win by more

Yes he does. Undoubtedly.

It worked early in the season. Grimes at LB, Naughton in midfield etc. He’s taken it too far a couple of times, Saturday being an obvious example
