I’ve been sat out the back for hours after work in front of the chiminea feeding logs on, mesmerised by the flames. It’s better than anything on the telly. 
Trick is boys, dry timber. Get it this year ready for next and sling it in the garage to dry properly - no smoke, no choking smell.

Funny thing about it being a man thing. I was burning some garden waste a few days ago plus loads of packaging stuff that we can't take to the local recycling place at the moment cos it's closed and the area where we burn stuff is next to a public bridleway. Anyway, a young family walked by and their lad who couldn't have been more than 4 or 5 said "Ooh, Dad, look, a fire, can we stay and watch?" which I found hilarious. So they start young! I was fascinated by fire at that age and actually started big fire when I was about 5 when we lived in Pennard so must have been around 1956 or thereabouts, needed several fire engines as I recall. Scared the bejesus out of me though and I never played with matches again. |  | | |
