| The death knell for cash transactions... 13:48 - Apr 23 with 7526 views | Swanjaxs | With most shops/supermarkets encouraging Contactless payments because of C-19, could this be the start of the end for cash? With lockdown restrictions hopefully being eased in the coming months, surely pubs, restaurants and retailers will insist on contactless for the foreseeable future? Personally I haven't used cash for a very long time. | |

Highly unlikely. There are too many people out there who can't handle mobile payments and don't trust contactless/chip and pin. Not to mention the fact that they've just replaced a shitload of notes with a new design and the £20 is still to be done. Cash will exist for decades more, although no doubt the proportion of cash to card transactions will shift far more towards card/digital.

I have exactly the same amount of cash in my purse as I had in March. I have not used even 10p since lockdown. Nothing at all.

And there are undoubtedly many thousands, perhaps more of people who have. You're an intelligent person. No doubt you have a bank account, can do online banking, all sorts of clever things. There are at least 1.3m people in the UK who don't even have their own bank account or the wherewithal to manage one. How are they going to move to digital transactions? I don't doubt the prevalence of non-cash transactions will rise, perhaps significantly, but cash ain't going away completely for a long time.

What about old people or those that can't get bank accounts?
| The death knell for cash transactions... on 14:09 - Jul 13 with 545 views | magicdaps10 | They will have to learn to use their bank cards. Ones who can't get bank accounts, you mean homeless? Then they will stop begging and will have to seek help, money that people will have to declare and pay tax on can be used to help these people. There is always answers and solutions. | |

| The death knell for cash transactions... on 14:27 - Jul 13 with 539 views | MrSwerve | There are too many generations currently alive that have been brought up with cash for it to be rid of yet. People born in the 80s/90s onwards have been brought up with internet banking, debit/credit cards, Apple pay, contactless, etc. Even then, you have people who aren't confident with this type of banking and spending. I don't see the need for cash personally, but I can't see it being gotten rid of entirely for at least 50-odd years. It's been integral to human everyday life for so long. It'll take poorer countries a long time to get up to speed with the way that developed countries bank and pay. | |

Of course it can be done, it will be a massive thing to lose but it is more than doable. Unfortunately we will have plenty who will not want it done for many a reason but that Tom foolery aside....... It can 100% be done and most certainly should be. Unfortunately it won't happen.

Why? Because I know a shitload more about how it's possible for people to struggle to obtain and maintain bank accounts than you clearly do.

As previously stated, it prevents such spreads of what we are experiencing at present with covid19 and doesn't allow people to fiddle with cash in hand, tax paid on the appropriate rather than being kept on the sssshhhh. Yes because my opinion is that it should be cashless. I am fully open to hear others opinions that are opposite to my view on the opinion.
