Swansea City v Blackburn Rovers
Kick off 3pm
Saturday 31st October 2020
Liberty Stadium

Referee : DEAN WHITESTONE
Richard Wild and Ian Cooper
Fourth Official : Andy Davies

Lovely to see the EFL being a bit more proactive on their appointments schedule.
An experienced EFL official, Dean Whitestone refereed his first Football League game in 2005 at Notts County.

He has since gone on to referee over 400 EFL games across all divisions, including acting as Fourth Officials for the EFL Trophy Final at Wembley between Coventry City and Oxford United. Unlike the pretty unnoticeable Andre Marriner on Tuesday evening Whitestone, albeit an experienced ref is not on the same level. He seems to be content ploughing a narrow furrow and has done since 2005. The last time he sent two players off in a game was in December last year at the Liberty when the swans beat Middlesbrough 3-1. Both were boro players so it doesn’t really matter. He has only sent off one player in all his games since then. That was a QPR player and that also doesn’t matter. Whitestone seems to be a tolerant referee with a low risk of being booked by him. Let’s see.

So, why does he call himself Whitestone ?
Quite simply he loved the TV show ‘King of Queens’ with the fat American bloke and rather tasty wife. The area preferred to shoot the show was Whitestone, New York. And there is the obvious connection. Dean immediately changed his name and the rest is referee history. Dean used to be called Bill, now there’s another reconnection here because ...
Ready ?
Dean Whitestone is in the old bill, he is a serving lawman in the Met Police and has been since 2004. Thank you for your service sir. In the eight previous Swansea games he has been referee In, the swans have only lost one and that was to Doncaster Rovers back in League one. We like Dean here at Swansea Independent, and if I was him I would keep it that way. Because, well, just because.

This is Dean in work yesterday having a laugh with his mates

So, what do we know about Blackburn?
58% of the people who live in Blackburn are called Tony. In the seventies it got so confusing that people had to otherwise reference their family members as ‘our Tony’ or in conversation with others ‘your Tony’ when speaking about a particular Tony in the third person it would ‘their Tony’ with either a backward thumb jerky over the shoulder motion or raised eyes slightly aft. Other variants could be ‘that Tony’ however this expression was used in times of running the particular Tony in question down for some reason. ‘ I see that Tony is round our Tony’s house again with weed he got from your Tony’ Is a good example. Of course with diversity came other ways of referencing Tony. ‘ Asian Tony’ is one, ‘Black Tony’ is another, ‘Mexican Tony’ came about as a result of a native of the town liking for tequila, but when a real Mexican bloke moved in round the corner, called Tony, he gracefully stepped aside and became ‘drunk Tony’ The handing over the names ceremony back in May1986 (it was brought forward because of the World Cup) is still talked about today, although ‘drunk Tony’ can’t remember it. If you get to grips with the many Tony differentials available, the world is an endless bubbling cauldron of Tony solutions.

This is a picture of a man called Tony Blackburn which is a massive slap in the face to the people of Blackburn

Here we see Tony’s Top Chippy in Blackburn

Unfortunately Drunk Tony’s son Drunk Tony Jr, who used to called ‘Moron Tony’ put the sign up, and he never went to school much because he was too pissed. Chippy Tony did go to the press about it and it caused quite a stir locally, nothing really happened and in the end they all laughed about it.

Here is a picture of everyone laughing about it

This was taken by Porno Tony the photographer from just down the road from Blackburn Rovers ground. Please don’t confuse Porno Tony with another Tony who is a photographer of models in the town. His name is Tony Cross, when he found out about Porno Tony taking business from him he went really ballistic and smashed a tea cup in his converted kitchenette. He is now called Angry Tony, which he quite likes.

Tony Mowbray, his name brought a huge change to Blackburn Rovers fortunes

Now, here is what they say in my local parlour of extravagant ladies ‘the rub’
Manager and Coach of Blackburn Rovers is TONY MOWBRAY. And this is where it all comes together. When he first came to Blackburn in 2017 he was originally called ‘Melton Tony’ however, his name is now ‘Boring Tony’ the names Mundane and Sleepy were rejected. However, this season his team have scored numerous goals and some would say the name should be placed under celebrated change. The issues of living in Blackburn are many, due to the many areas of confusion with the name Tony most people now christen or call their sons and daughters Anthony or Toni.

The last time we played Blackburn at the Liberty Stadium it ended 2-2.

Highlights of the last Liberty meeting

The last three games between the two sides have ended in a draw. The first game between the two clubs was in 1915 in the FA Cup, the swans won 1-0. The swans beat Blackburn 5-1 in 1951 and in 1956, in the same year rovers beat the swans 5-3.

The two best known players in recent times to play for both clubs are Danny Graham and local chap James Thomas, who starred in that last gasp win v Hull City in 2003.

Blackburn Rovers owners are Venkys, this particular company build hens and chickens
For northern Indian consumption. These are called broiler

This is Balaji Rao of Venkys, only three years ago he was a day old egg then hatched, it just goes to show what can be achieved these days. Well done Balaji, with looks like that you will be a huge catch with the ‘chicks’ in Blackburn. This photograph wasn’t taken by ‘Porno Tony’ but it could have been.

Don’t forget we have MGW to come back, arguably outlet best player and also manning can play midfield.

A satisfying feature for me is Dhanda’s emergence to get us going and help give us the lead then Kasey Palmer coming on and running his legs off defending from the front. A superb combination at the moment and working a treat. Palmers work rate is off the scale!

Byers to come back as well.

You must wonder why Woodman is consistently marked down by our supporters. Yesterday was a case in point another clean sheet and a great save following naughton's weak header to prevent Blackburn equalising just before half time. He got an average of only 5.8 from our supporters which means a lot of them incredibly mark him a lot lower.

Even the Cardiff Wales on line rated him 8. You do worry about some of our so called supporters who do like to do a job on some of our players. Even Connor Roberts get stick while the pundits on quest last night were praising him. 12 successful crosses yesterday.

and how the defenders are forced to take responsibility when he doesnt shout which is the incident to which you are refering.

Woodman is weak, very indecisive and needs to man up .

His distribution was better yesterday though

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

When a player, especially a goal keeper, has so little to do it is a bit silly to give a high rating so a top mark of 8 seems fair to me. Then credit is dropped for errors etc.
Yesterday his distribution was better but that was down to Naughton, Smith and Fulton moving players around and Blackburn leaving our third fairly open.
He also fails to communicate with his outfield players and doesn't take responsibility inside the 6 yard box. He's a decent shot stopper but not a great 'keeper.
We did keep a clean sheet but much of that was, as it should be, down to the defence, a better presence in midfield and sloppy finishing by the opposition.
Given he made a couple of decent stops and distribution was OK I gave him a 7.

Sound summary just dont understand why some supporters must have marked him 4 or 5.

Some don’t seem to have any confidence in him at all, that fumble second half won’t have helped.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

My issue with him is the lack of communication, I think it was Naughton yesterday who headed behind for a corner when there was no one around him, it was an easy collection for Woodman but he simply doesn't talk.

On the whole though I thought he was good yesterday to be fair.
