| At last the Government sees the light on Vitamin D. 12:02 - Nov 28 with 2977 views | A_Fans_Dad | It is only about 10 months too late, but as they say better late than never. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/ne Of course no mention or advice that BAME or Overweight people should also be taking it along with everyone over 30. It is not expensive, so most people should be able to afford it at about £16 a year. [Post edited 28 Nov 2020 12:08]

Yes Though there may be benefits for many taking vitamin d, excess of several, especially fat soluble, vitamins can lead to toxicity. For most supplements are a con

Lots of possibles in those article and typical of you not to mention Calcium, which is much more likely to cause stenosis than Vit D. I don't know where you get your dosage data from, but in the USA the recommended dose is 10-20micrograms and for many 25 micrograms is preferential.

They are not doses. They are RDA. They are not drugs. They do not have pharmacological effects.

The entire paper says vitamin d and/or calcium supplements. I think vitamin d encourages calcium to be deposited in the body. Holland and Barrett say themselves it is 500% of the daily NRV. They are the very ones my father bought. I'm not even pretending to be an expert but it's probably not a good idea to be self prescribing too much vitamin d.

In a lot of hot places people tend to stay indoors more or in the shade.

As Vitamin D has little or no effect on your risk of becoming infected, but deficiencies can lead to a poorer outcome. Unfortunately some people still fail to get all these 'wonder treatments' are marginal gains in outcome.....

Obviously. You can get all the vitamin d you need just by going outside for a bit. I imagine it could be helpful for people who work nights though.

Yes, that must be the reason that the government has decided to give it to people in care homes for free. They love wasting our money.

For you (although very fit for your age) and AFD it’s probably worthwhile. As AFD has rightly said many people have poor diets and there are always individuals who need supplements. But taking excess amounts is a waste of time .

You’ll still get sunlight coming through on cloudy days just not as much. And the UV levels are lower this time of year anyway. Obviously people tend to cover up more in cold weather too so you’ll get less this time of year anyway. People should get enough during the summer to last the year. You just need the odd top up during the winter.

| At last the Government sees the light on Vitamin D. on 11:25 - Nov 30 with 718 views | onehunglow | I always like to top myself up no matter what season. Suppose it is all about moderation . I drink a bottle of red wine as I read it might help me so I try to enjoy what time I have left on this planet before I am sent to burning hell to face my adverseries . Frankly,I am dubious about getting Vit D in summer when it is often just as lacking in sunshine and then topping up. As for you,Professor,I am not yet over the hill although at the plateau;Ive quit the Gym due to fears over covid and simply walk 5 mls a day at a good pace. We walk the coast . We walked to New Brighton last week and had to get the bus back. The Bus !.Me. Keep healthy anyway chaps whatever you do or whatever you take or do not. | |
