| Colchester fans now on 14:31 - Dec 8 by Dr_Parnassus | Again not sure what you are talking about, you seem oddly untrusting. It’s fairly straight forward, a company is going to be affected by tax hikes if candidate A gets in. The owner mitigates that by backing candidate A to make up some of the potential personal losses they would incur by his/her business being affected. If candidate B gets in they lose their million but is the preferred outcome as their company earns more in the tax they now don’t have to pay. As I said, it’s normal practice has has probably been going on for decades. A million dollar bet wouldn’t affect the price of a US election market at all, in fact it didn’t. The US election is one of the most rock solid markets there is, it reacts to events not weight of money (or posts on Swansea Independent). There is $3 million waiting to be matched on Biden with Betfair right now if you can find the cash, you would need to bet the whole $3 million just to move it 0.01 and even then a new multi million lump will replace it so it goes back to where it was before you placed your hard earned on it. Anyway, until later. [Post edited 8 Dec 2020 14:33]

Right now, when it's all over bar the shouting? What market are you even talking about? What price is Trump if it's the US Presidency still? But money moves markets don't hide behind your amateur tennis and other sports betting loopholes to say it doesn't. No one could call this election, not you - the political hurricane you are, not the bookies, no one. The odds flipped flop twice and whilst there are other drivers to markets and whilst flash Harry's like you may have some sign-off when it comes to allowing higher liabilities here and there, it's money that makes it all spin around. And don't pretend to be a Corporate tax/hedging strategist along with your other array of skill-sets, do you know how daft that sounds. Can you imagine the AGM there when they announce they're wacking a million on Biden just in case he wins. What do they call that? - a win/lose strategy? You'll be up til 3 am at least. Tijuana are playing.

Glad you added Betfair, be nuts to tell the world what would change betting markets but where do you get the 3 million dollars from?

I will if you keep replying yeah. I’m a machine as you know. I’m talking about the US election. Trump is around 22’s. Money moves small markets yes, a million dollar bet into a multi billion dollar market doesn’t. Not sure why you are pretending to know otherwise, this is odd. What do you mean nobody could call the election? Nobody has to. I have no idea what point you are making. If they could call the election they wouldn’t be hedging. They are mitigating potential losses by backing the candidate that would be worse for their business. That whole premise is based on the fact they don’t know who will win, they are finding the balance between best and worst case scenario. You don’t have to be a corporate tax/hedging strategist to know why clients are betting on certain markets. It’s basic. Why would a company owner bring up in an AGM what he has done with his money?

You mentioned an international Company with the owners residing in Oz and paying dividends. And one doing well enough to stake a million on the losing candidate. So now they have lost their million and may face the tax hikes, is that what you're saying? But they only have to answer to themselves because this international Company is just a one man band? Now I know you stare at betting platforms for work but how can you possibly get inside the mind of Corporate's (or one man international bands - delete as you move on with the story) and their intentions with the bets they are making? Do they have to provide you with a quick bio with every bet? You are a machine, I agree. You are literally amazing.

Well the Betfair figures are on the link I sent you. You mentioned it would take 3 million dollars to move the Betfair exchange price. Link > Look > How? Or were you giving your own Company's market values?

No, they would lose their million and not face the tax hikes. Come on mate. They are backing the candidate that would have a negative impact on their business. The other outcome is winning their wager and the company then facing the tax hikes of that president. It’s basic concepts and well known in the industry. They may well be sticking a million dollars on an unpredictable market just for fun, but it’s incredibly unlikely. Thanks very much. Appreciate that. [Post edited 8 Dec 2020 15:10]

Fair enough, they have now won their million dollar bet on Biden and this will offset the potential tax hike that may or may not come? That's their strategy is it? And it's the individual doing this then, not the Corporation? I know Corporates use various different financial instruments and mechanisms to hedge certain outcomes, but I am shocked to find out taking a punt at 5/4 with your betting Company is one of them. You don't know this though do you.. This million dollar bet could have been made by anyone if it was made at all.

Correct. I know it happens all the time yes. Do I know this particular one was doing that? No but the overwhelming likelihood is that he was, we know him and his business. Someone that was doing it recreationally would have a track record of recreational betting. You don’t bet a million bucks out of the blue and never again. That’s just something I know from experience, I know it’s hard but you will have to trust me on that. Or not. Either is fine.

| Colchester fans now on 22:16 - Dec 7 by 34dfgdf54 | It’s become an empty gesture anyway, didn’t Les Ferdinand ask QPR to stop doing it? I’m not against doing it by any stretch, I certainly wouldn’t dream of booing, but I’m not sure what it’s achieving at the moment, kneeling before every game, and then not taking any action on Cavani’s Instagram post for example seems pretty stupid to me and backs up Les Ferdinand’s point. |
Just a follow up from this, has Cavani been charged by FA yet?

It's a dead duck market, That wasn't the story just before or during the night of the election was it. And that is Betfair not where you work. And that 2.8bn Aus wasn't all staked at 1/50 and 20/1 was it. |
Large purpose bets such as that don’t get placed the day of the election. The market frantically reacts to news on the day of the election. All large bets for corporate purposes will be placed long before then where the market is stable. I don’t have to work there. Election prices on markets such as this are driven by the exchanges we just add an over-round. Our prices are dictated by the overall market not our market, we accept bets in accordance with our position. [Post edited 8 Dec 2020 15:40]

Potential to be another Suarez case, Uruguayan says something that they think is not too bad banter, but European English types don't like it, watch this space, will the book be thrown at the South Americans again I wonder ?, interestingly in both those cases Evra and Deeney both have a past.

Of course we do. The market is solid, we have a price edge and can mitigate any potential losses on the exchange like all corporates do. We have departments dedicated to it. For us the risk is zero.

For massive markets such as this yes, but it’s once every 4 years. I create hundreds of markets that aren’t driven by the wider market. I haven’t gone to any lengths, I’m just fielding questions from you who keeps asking me about it. I’m being polite.

Well he doesn’t rock up, no. He creates an account, asks us if we would accept it. We do our checks and make a decision. On the US election it’s rock solid because of the weight of money there and the principles I just told you, where in order to move the price you would need to place probably tens and tens of millions to take what’s there waiting, plus what will replace it. If we take a 500k bet at 4/5 we can take a portion of that and back it on the exchange at 9/10 which is the purpose of the over-round.
