With the number of cases rising fast in elite football players are being told not to celebrate the goals with the huddles and cuddles.

I haven't understood why they were allowed to anyway?

More games are off this weekend, Derby are going to field a full team of U23 and U18's because the whole first team squad are isolating. If the footballers want football stopped again they are going the right way about it.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

No ones answering the question.

Are we going to a completely non contact sport while Covid is rife, are players driving to away matches in their own cars?

Having a go at players celebrating, what an absolute load of tosh.

No. The things essential to football, marking , tackling etc will continue. As NeathJack points out.

Those non essential things like hugging and kissing stop.

If that's too difficult then just stopthe whole thing until we beat the virus.

Personally, I'd rather have football to watch. If these well paid players cannot obey this rule and the sport has to stop, they should be furloughed like other workers.

The headline statement on the national news just now makes it sound like a foregone conclusion anyway, London's NHS has declared a major incident and is on the verge of collapse apparently.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Players until the last couple of decades have always managed to avoid excessive hubris over a goal being scored.

Every former footballer from way back will tell you the game was just as intene and passionate and crowds were infinately bigger.60k at Goodison,Tottenham70 at Manchester clubs and 6 figures for the Glasgow Bigotry derby. Tackling was harder and more vicious too. Players probably gobbed less too.

Let s face it,celebrations are rarely impromtu but planned for effect for the benefit of fansand the lack of fans now means this faux joy at scoring for the team is a sham.

Football and footballers need to man up and be honest

Why wasnt this brought up when football started back up in late july?

Just saying 🤷‍♂️

New strain of the virus is many times more contagious hence the stratospheric rise in new cases.
Not sure why people are getting in a twist about players not hugging and kissing after a goal but also perplexed as to why rugby is still allowing scrums, rucks, mauls and tackles.

Answer.
No.

Explanation. Tackling is not contact in the same way as mouth to mouth embracing each other.

You won’t get COVID by tackling in football but you well could if you literally get on the face of your chum to kiss him

Simple really.

Not heard of the 2m recommendation then have you ?

Think you need to get within 2m to put a tackle in. Or to mark someone, or to form a defensive wall. That’s ok then ?

Only an idiot would eat a turkey curry on Christmas day

Answer me this then.

Why fist pump at the start of a game then cuddle up and crawl over each other for a face to face love in. Have you no sense at all in debate. Are you completely unable to admit you may not be right. Can you simply argue the point with a modicum of respect.

Ah right I forgot players have been power necking eachother after scoring.

Celebrating a goal is no different to the marking from corners. People are catching this virus in super markets, if the testing schedule these players are having doesn’t stop the spread around teams then they should just knock it all on the head.

Asking a player not to celebrate a last minute winner is ridiculous.

Really.
What is ridiculous is "celebrating" leading to mass infections in the club.

Score a goal and possibly give virus to a dozen people.

Aston Villa now affected badly.

Just how did players of yore get on .Can just imagine,Matthews,Finney,Charles,Allchurch,Cliffy,Mackay being flooded by kisses and hugs just for scoring.

We really are screwed .Totally.

Im not sure people can even see the wood for the trees.

These are times when all we know has changed.Life has changed. Thing that we knew have gone, people too. Folks get a fookn grip and THINK.

If we cannot avoid "celebrating",just close down sport -totally. Then ,have the players contracts adjusted accordingly seeing the world faces real financial hardship. What's that ?. Players can't manage on 200k per week and need more to keep them happy at a club.We have tolerated these jerks for too long,,,folks.

Players and many top level sportsmen ,like Hamilton, will and are continuing to negotiate for salaries utterly removed from reality. Ideally, these greedy fookers should be kicked in the teeth and wallet.

Those Villa kids should be absolutely ashamed of themselves celebrating scoring against the premier league champions.

Who is suggesting they can't celebrate?

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

Sorry,Im not seeing the necessity for a virtual love in over a goal being scored when in doing so the team might lose anyway.

Somebody explain the logic of that then.

Footballers cannot function then without a cuddle? This is what is suggested and its crazy, folks, really it is.

It’s en emotional game, Jamal Lowe said he was surprised he was in the right headset to remember to go over to Ben Fosters camera, James Thomas after the Hull game said they were all told not to celebrate in front of the North Bank in case it triggered a pitch invasion, but when the goals are going in he didn’t even think.

They travel on same bus, they train together, it’s a contact sport. You’ll all be asking for marking on corners to be banned next, it’s what sadly some people love to do, moan and moan, cry and cry.

Emotional!.
Not as emotional as seeing a loved one drift away slowly from this life.

At times like these, football and footballers are nothing.

We have elevated them to places they shouldn't be and Im as guilty as anyone.

What point is that or are you jumping to conclusions again. As usual.

Point is this;virus is spreading out of control.Understand that, then post accordingly.

It is out of control which means we all have to be stringent about personal safety. That's the point, the ONLY point you need to understand. Everything else does not matter.Another point to remember. Footballers are now being asked to refrain from handshakes and hugging so they too seem to have not understood YOIR point which seems to be to allow footballers to crawl all over each other because they are ,what,in a bubble and get tested regularly.

Everything is pointless outside fighting this curse and the sooner people realie that the better.

If football is causing that and celebrating with people you are training with every day, travelling on busses with every other week then knock it on the head. It obviously isn’t, as anyone who can’t work from home are still out working alongside everyone anyway. Football is the least of the worries.

I’m not bothered if they shut football down if it’s for the health of others, why would I be?

Lawro just suggested they knock it on the head for a bit on football focus.
