A nice, decent man. A proud West Walian. Had connections in Ammanford way. Was there on the North Bank for his finest hours..and his worse...but he served us very well.

Poll: Where will the Swans finish this season?

I've alluded to this story before on here but will tell it again, and it was about Dai Davies..and the match before the "hands" were planted on the goal line.
We played Notts County and Dai had been getting a shed load of stick of late....as well as the team...and standing on the North Bank a big argument started around me about Dai...and his part in our general demise...we were in shit street and going down. One bloke was sticking up for Dai and was not having it that any blame should be directed at him. It got very heated...almost to blows between him and several others. Anyway....no sooner had it died down....the Notts Co keeper belted the ball out of his box on the wind and Dai decides to run out of his box to meet it. He completely mis-times it and it bounces over his head. The Notts Co striker cant believe his luck and walks the ball into the net. We all had our head in our hands...and I remember turning to look at the guy who had been sticking up for him. The look on his face was pure gold. He was gutted. A comedy moment I will never forget...

Just for that RIP...

We weren't struggling though, it was our first season in the first division. Great story

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game
Poll: Happy to see Martin go

As Raynor has already said that it was our first season in the top flight, and the Notts County match was only our 2nd home game of the season after the opening day hammering of Leeds.

You're right about Dai and the bizarre goal at the end, but we were 3-1 up at the time, and won 3-2.

Our crowds were flaky though weren't they.Lose a game then thousands stay away for the next.
The team and club deserved better and we really didn't do ourselves any favours.

Memorable days for me anyway and for some reason Maine Road stands out as a very feisty away encounter

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

Crowds were way down then to what they are now right across the division

Yes and then didn’t it drop down to an unbelievably low figure of around 11,500 in our 2nd season in the first division. Going from memory so that might be wrong

Only an idiot would eat a turkey curry on Christmas day

I think those figures were extremely questionable based on how people back then could get in to the ground without using a turnstile, just showing a ticket etc.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

It was surprising how many people went through the gate on the North Bank without showing a ticket. 😇
