We can't keep everyone happy. kids, teens, old ppl, vulnerable ppl, health workers, police teachers, shop assistants, how to we keep them all safe and happy at the same time? If it means a few kids are unhappy , but it protects others from death, then so be it.

Do you really think that the only implication of kids not going to school is that some will be unhappy?

i'm very sorry that the little ones are having some problems, but compare that to the old and vulnerable that are dying and becoming seriously ill and it becomes quite a non event really. It's all about priorities and mine would be protecting the ones who need it most

That's an incredibly short term thought process. Have you thought that we could be losing a generation of future Dr's, nurses and scientists to protect todays vulnerable? I wouldn't call that a non event.

Baring in mind too that little ones don't suffer the symptoms or pass the virus on they need to be in school as much as is humanly possible.

The age group that are the most infectious are the adolescents up to 24, and the next group then are the 6 to 12 year olds, so they are very infectious indeed. They will pass on the virus, as they are just smaller human beings not different ones .

No that's infected and not infectious.

Its from the ONS survey which tests people at random so includes asymptomatic, which many young children will be. Apparently the virus doesn't bind so well to young children's cells.

It's interesting that the next most infections aren't in an age group that could be young children's parents.

If someone is infected they are infectious, they go hand in hand

I've said it before but I'll say it again.

Apparently the covid coronavirus does not bind as well to the cells of young children. This is likely to mean they aren't as infectious, that's why the under sevens are going back to school next week.

Record numbers of teenagers reporting self harm becomes "little ones being unhappy".

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

It was a comment from someone who clearly doesn't have the first idea about what he's commenting on.

I know a child psychologist and she's inundated at the moment. There's a very real fear in those circles that the misery of lockdown will result in a massive increase in the suicide/self harm rates if it goes on for much longer.

But hey, if CJ the plague enthusiast gets to belittle the problem then it's all good.

Yes. But that is not what the survey you quoted was saying, it picks up asymptomatic cases which are far more common in young children.

We have seen, but if you know better?

I think the last thing to close should be schools as an absolute last resort and the first to open, even if both are on a staggered basis and even if they do contribute to an increase in infection.

I'd suggest closing offices should happen before schools. How many cases stemmed from the DVLA in Swansea? Obviously they are an important employer but is what they do more important than children's education and welfare?

I'd like to see teachers getting vaccinated too.

Schools should never have closed at all. Every child should have had at least one day per week in a proper, educational environment.

There's not much that couldn't have been altered to accommodate that, especially the DVLA.

Young children have the same viral load as adults

Teachers should be much higher up the vaccine list. Then open the schools. Shop assistants should also be way up the list.

This is interesting from C4 news regarding how lockdown has affected the mental health of all ages.

It's a shame, some of the press are only starting to wake up to the implications of what being in lockdown has done to people.

If you move teachers up the list what about the Police, Firemen, Taxi Drivers, Bus Drivers etc who are more at risk than teachers. If you move a group up the list then that means moving others down. The evidence clearly shows more people die as you get progressively older. 83% of those who have died are over 70 and a further 11% are between 60 and 69 so 94% have died aged 60+. How many teachers have died compared to say the 65-69 group that are being vaccinated at present. How many teachers are there over 65. Indeed how many are over 60 and if they are in those groups they will be vaccinated anyway. If they had a medical condition they would be vaccinated in the next group regardless of age.

Firemen, police etc can social distance, you try telling 5yr olds to keep 2m apart. It's impossible.

I think he's correct.

Lock down is awful, I hate every second of it. Lots of people are suffering.

Unfortunately it is essential. The implications of no lockdown are worse.

Let's hope people aren't stupid enough to refuse the vaccine and we can have a decent summer. We've got a long way to go yet.

Police cant. They cant stay 2 metres away when they are arresting someone. A taxi driver is right next to someone in the front seat. If you put some up the list you have to move others down and doing that would mean putting people who are more at risk down. If anyone should be moved up it is police taxi drivers and supermarket workers who are amongst it but there is clear evidence the older you are the more at risk you are.

He is 100% correct, I can see it happening all around me.

Although I disagree with lockdowns were or are essential, that is something that we can never know..

We saw a high number of deaths throughout January, and restrictions were put in place weeks before Chrimbo.

And lets face it even before the harsher restriction came in, nobody was exactly having a ball and socialising..

The lockdowns have been a disaster.
