| Old v Young 09:02 - Feb 19 with 1923 views | KeithHaynes | As an example I will use Peter Kay. One of his routines used to be his grandmother walking back from town with a broken wrist carrying two shopping bags after a fall. Then ringing him to say she had hurt her wrist. He disclosed a while back that was actually true. My chat with cattulus the other day about older folk, his grandfather and mine got me thinking in general terms about today’s youth and the older generation when they were that age. Has it gone wrong or is it the usual thing that today’s generation will never live up to older generations. Any thoughts ? Are today’s youngsters in the same mould ? | |

Those distinctions are now blurred . I can understand why Drakefords lowered the voting age for Mays elections same as B;lauir open door policy on immigration , to maintain power |
Agreed. Historically I view Labour as disingenuous rats and conservatives as insouciant shiitehouses both of whom treat the great misguided British public with abject contempt. All things equal,Swansea should have ousted incompetent corrupt Labour Councils years ago . Sadly, many feel there is no choice. They may be right

It is a well known thing that when people are young they tend to be more left but they move more to the right as they get older. There is a quote from someone, ‘If You Are Not a Liberal When You Are Young, You Have No Heart, and If You Are Not a Conservative When Old, You Have No Brain’ There is a very good reason Labour get into power for a short while then the tories take over for much longer periods. That is because Labour make promises they cannot keep without really bad long term consequences. Then the Tories improve things, people get misty eyed for a Labour fairy tale and the cycle starts again. As long as we keep that cycle going things will never improve for the majority in the way the majority seem to want. Until we have better politicians (on all sides) not the greedy self serving bunch we seem stuck with (on all sides) and until the people truly want a more equal world, nothing will change. Trampie, when you talk about "me me me" you do realise you mean almost every single one of us. We all want what is best for us. We all make noises about doing the right thing, about looking after the worse off but when it comes down to it, at the ballot box we vote for who we think best represents us. Then look at politicians...maybe just one, a former Labour leader, a man who used to call for the abolishing of the house of Lords and was strongly anti EU, look at what he used to say and look where he is now, Neil Kinnock, Lord Kinnock, ex EU Commissioner, a man whose family got rich off the things he used to claim to hate. You have tory scum and you have Labour scum, which scum is worse?

Yeah, Churchill is often associated with it but I don't know. I o know that when I turned 18 it was Labour all the way, didn't need to think about it. I'd love to be able to go back 35 years and have a word with myself! I'd put myself straight and leave a few tips for the football too, Liverpool, Norwich, Reading, Swindon...Liverpool, Oxford and I'd have warned myself about the next GE 2 years later...can you guess the year?

Is that some sort of trick question Cat? "I'd love to go back 35 years and have a word with myself" "Can you guess the year"

Oh come on, I gave clues. Liverpool, Norwich.......1985....of course techically 35 years would be 1986 but I turned 18 in 85. The year Liverpool won the First division and FA cup, Oxford won the league cup, Norwich won the second division, it was the 85/86 season but to give myself that tip it's only worthwhile in 85. Not a trick question, just a rubbish clue!
