I'm beating the same drum over and over but this midfield is woefully short of genuine legs. We are carrying Hourihane and Fulton looks like the games have caught up with him, we cannot compete and it was the same Wednesday.

The loss of Gibbs White despite not playing much will be a massive blow.

This result has been coming for weeks. The lack of rotation will come back to haunt us, my hope for Wednesday is the effort Coventry put in today will leave them as knackered as us. This team is out on it's feet.

IMO opinion our best midfield at the moment is Smith and Fulton holding with Grimes more advanced. Hourihane gets us goals and is excellent at set plays but generally drifts out of matches. Plus I think Grimes gets more out of Lowe and Ayew.

Absolutely spot on.

We were at our best with the three you mentioned, hourihane is better coming off the bench when the oppo are tired.

I'm really not sure if it's wise to be leaving out what is basically a goal a game threat based on one piss poor team performance against Huddersfield.

It's Cooper's job to make a midfield containing Hourihane work. If that means changing the composition to accommodate him then so be it.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Only way I can see Grimes and Hourihane in the same team working would be with a flat back four and I would rather not see that. I thought we were better when Hourihane went off on Wednesday, even though we scored from his corner and he would have probably have scored if Lowe had not got in his way.

Grimes and Hourihane are our two best central midfielders. Simple.

And of course they can play together. It’s a bit silly to suggest otherwise as they’re both talented intelligent players who understand what’s needed

Our team had a disastrous ten minutes at Hudds just after half time and from that some people are deducing that they can’t play together. What a pile of dung that is.

I think the problem with hourihane is he's a luxury player who can produce something magical but goes missing for a lot of the game, which puts pressure on the other two central players in there with him ,as we look a man short when we not in possession and I also think he don't show enough when in possesion but all of a sudden he can pop up from nowhere with a goal or assist.

Yes tend to agree with you but Hourihane has already scored some vital goals for us and with the assists he’s already an important player. He just has that bit of extra class and quality.

Hoolie ha undoubted class but he doesnt really break sweat, which is fine,so long as you have dogs in the team to compensate. This is why Smith should play, less talented but a real grafter and one not worried abut getting his shirt dirty.

Hoolie IS a luxury and can win games on his own but he is a risk and not one I d have out of choice in the trenches.

It’s not “end of” though is it? Fulton and Smith both bring more in general play than Hourihane. He has the ability to score from distance and from set pieces though. Difficult decision for Cooper.

It also wasn’t just ten dodgy minutes at Huddersfield there have been problems for several games in the middle.

I wouldn’t drop Hourihane personally but I can 100% see the argument for it.

Hourihane apart from defensively lacking for me is more direct and therefore does not bring Lowe and Ayew into the game so much. Weigh that up against his eye for goal and set plays it really does make it tough for Cooper.

I’d disagree that they “ bring more in general play “ but certainly are better defensively. Smith and Fulton are both good players, having good seasons. But Hourihane is more attack minded and with extra quality with an eye for scoring or creating which has helped us going forward. Along with Grimes and Fulton or Smith I’d play him set up in a 3-4-1-2 as we do regularly in fact. It’s a good problem to have isn’t it. As well as Dhanda who has a lot of talent but is still inconsistent.

A disastrous 10 minutes? I must have watched a different game, we were poor for most of the 90 minutes.

Something I thought most fans knew was the best players don't necessarily make the best team. Hourihane being a more talented player then Smith or Fulton might be a given but it doesn't mean the team will be better with him in it ahead of the other 2.

It's not up to Cooper to find the best way to fit Hourihane in but to find the best combination of all the players that gives us a winning team. No player should be guaranteed a start, they should have to earn it.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Yes that’s correct a disastrous ten minutes. No one can dispute that surely.

Their three goal attempts in that period not only were on target but freakishly they all went in. Including one goal of the season contender.

That apart throughout the whole game they had 12 goal attempts to our 9. With 5 on target against our two. They had most of the possession with 58%.

My point stands. If was a very bad day for us and a poor performance I’d agree but the game was fairly even apart from that bizarre 49th to 55th minute period.

Not one player of ours had a good game. Fortunately it seems like a one off. As our players have been terrific all season that day apart. You’d agree with that.
