Reading about the plans for the Queen's death it makes one realise that it will be a huge seismic event, the likes of which most living people in this country (possibly any country) would never have seen. Talk of workers getting sent home and having a holiday for the funeral.

PS on checking she was closer to 102 years of age than she was to 101.

Yes but it doesn't mean the Queen will live that long, or maybe she'll live even longer. Maybe she'll break records and become the Uk's oldest woman when she passes 112. Or maybe he grief at losing her partner of 73 years will catch up with her. Who knows.
Very sad to see her sitting on her own in the papers. Why on earth didn't put Charles or somebody in her bubble next to her?
The Queen and her mother were always said to be very close then she went and married her cousin who was not just foreign born but seen as certain type of foreigner hence the Queen Mother's nickname for him but the Queen and the Queen Mother was said to have continued a very close mother and daughter relationship, not sure about Philips relationship with hs mother in law mind as I've seen it said in the past he was terrified of her, Queen Mother brother was killed by the Germans mind.

I was sat watching it thinking the same. I remember losing my Dad, all I wanted to do was be close to my Mum and she needed me too. Very sad our Queen sat 'alone'.
Is it seven days of mourning ? I hope not, I suppose it could be arranged for her to die in the summer it would be ok then sports wise. Not that I’m saying it should be ‘arranged’ Her husband is dead so highly unlikely.

Shirley they could have tested Charles or Anne and looked after her ?
They’ll have all been tested. Repeatedly.
And vaccinated now as well.
But the rules are as they are and they’d have had endless criticism if they’d done things that everyone else isn’t allowed to do,
I thought the simple service was rather lovely. The ‘choir‘ of the four singers was spectacular.
I think seeing the Queen sitting on her own wearing a black mask brought home just how dreadful all of this has been for everyone, particularly those who have lost someone during this. Some, of course, have lost people when only a handful could attend, or back at the start, when no one could attend.
The vision of the young 13 year old boy from Brixton who died of Covid quite early on being buried with absolutely no one there will haunt me for evermore.

I agree with you. I think the Queen sitting the alone, observing every rule despite her grief sets the kind of example that people like Bojo and those plums in the Senedd should have set. I'm not a royalist, I'd abolish the lot but it's impossible not to respect our Queen.

The service yesterday was perfect from start to finish. A fitting send off for what I’ve always taken to be a great servant of the nation.
The singing was just out of this world. Absolutely beautiful.
Present for you here, Lis. Courtesy of the Orthodox Church.

I’m a republican too. But her sense of duty is beyond any criticism.
It was a Saturday, most people don't work weekends
There couldn't have been a day off on the day she died, unless we knew she was going to die. Think about it.
There was a day off for me, I was a postman. Her funeral was on a Friday. 20 yars later, 2017 there was a national holiday declared, National Kindness day.

I remember the day well - Sunday 31st August, 1997. My daughter was Christened that same afternoon.
It seems like yesterday.

I’m pretty certain the burial was on 6th September 1997, I can’t remember the day, possibly Friday ? But my sister got married on the same day, a couple of idiots dressed in Lady Diana T-shirt’s started shouting at my sister about how she should have cancelled her wedding out of respect. Oh, the shit they got for that.
