The people of all those countries live like peasants mun, possible exception Monaco and Iceland...you're happy to live like that? Mind you, Ireland is like that so you probably would be happy. But you still haven't answered my basic, yet very important(as far as independence is concerned)questions. Again, I'll wait...

Monaco is a one off as a tax haven that invites millionaires to live there and spend their money to support a very small native population. Iceland was a country that officially went bankrupt during the financial scandal and defaulted on all it's international debts. As you say we are still waiting for a Welsh independence supporter to explain how Wales will raise all the missing revenues from Westminster.

| Welsh independence being talked about on 08:30 - May 3 by felixstowe_jack | Nearly all of those countries are poorer than the UK and most have had to join the EU and give up their sovereignty to receive handouts form the EU. Not one of those countries listed is a net contributor to the EU. The choice for Wales is clear remain part of a wealthy UK with 5% on MPs in Westminster or leave the UK and join the EU to receive handouts from the undemocratic EU with less than 1% voting rights in the EU's puppet Parliament. That is why only 14% of the Welsh people want independence |
Uk national debt is 85.4% as in 2019 or £2.1 trillion, saying that most countries run at a loss, the USA debt IS $21 trillion not including intergovenrmental debt.

And your point is? How would Wales finance it's share of the UK national debt, the loss of the annual £9 billion subsidy from the UK government.

The point is, the usual Wales does not have enough money to be independent is nonsense, why would Wales pick up the share of the uk debt? Did the uk pick up a share of the 27 eu countries debt when it left the eu? Take out our share for paying towards trident, houses of parlaiment refurb, Buckingham Palace refurb, Hs2, cross rail. Hs2 £106bn, Buckingham palace £396 bn, Cross rail £218bn, Trident £2 billion per year.

I’ve never understood this argument. Wales is a net beneficiary of the UK with more money coming in than going out. If that remains, it doesn’t matter in Wales economic terms if Westminster spends a fortune on a folly. Wales’ funding remains.

No. Some on here seem to always stir it up, usually if they have lived in England for years. I have been accused by one of hating England, but when I have asked that person to show me a single quote on this forum showing that I have said it, there is nothing back. I have English friends, neighbour's, work colleagues. Do I treat them any differently ? Hell no. Why do people want independence? Because they love Wales. Nothing wrong with that. I think it will happen, and it will take something to make it happen. 20 years maybe, who knows.

Yes the UK did as part of the withdrawal agreement with the EU. Wales would have to agree a withdrawal agreement with the UK to leave as well as sorting a trade deal, pension liabilities, reciprocal health care arrangements, defence agreement, rights of each others citizens residing the UK and Wales. As part of the UK Wales is responsible for it's share of the UK debt, pretty standard international law. Of course 50% of the Welsh public would have to vote for independence first which given current support for PC is only 20% seems unlikely in the next 20 years.

A decent and most welcome reply. Thanks Ken. However, much what I posted on here from tam pie and Killy is as hatefilled racist as you will find. Of course you don’t hate English as they are part of the fabric of industrial Wales, where immigrants came for jobs in heavy industry and stayed. It s why so many Welsh have English surnames . It s also the case we inter breed
