| Jamaica on 18:23 - Jul 15 by felixstowe_jack | Just like decision to abandoned the M4 relief road are made in the Senedd despite the vast majority of people in Wales wanting and end to 20 years of queuing at the brynglas tunnels. |
Hopefully Prime Minister Johnson steps in and launches the much needed action. In addition, let's hope something can be done to claim back as much of the £144,000,000 (one hundred and forty four million pounds) that Mark Drakeford's Welsh Government spent on "consulting and studies" regarding the M4 relief road project. Most of us would be sacked and struggle to find a similar job if we had engaged in such gross incompetence and financial waste. Yet Mark Drakeford and the rest of the Senedd face no repercussions.

| Jamaica on 17:06 - Jul 15 by trampie | We pay in, just like the English railway project that is costing a fortune, Wales is paying towards it for no benefit to Wales. Here is the impressive Liz making the point, its unfair and biased. |
Do you know who is unfair and unbiased? Wales Audit. They have no skin in the game, no political axe to grind. They are mostly Welsh civil servants and they are only interested in numbers... ...and they say that we are subsidised to the tune of £14bn every single year.

I will take your word for it. As we all know the UK govt is in serious debt. Government debt in the United Kingdom reached 2.19 trillion British pounds in May 2021, compared with 1.87 trillion pounds in April 2020. Clearly Cymru cannot afford not to be indy. Once Indy then we can end our part of the spend on illegal wars, brexit, trident, cross-rail, hs2, uk border force, east west rail, house of lords and the Royals. Cymru will be quids in. Thats for making the case for indy wales ðŸ‘ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿

https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/news New report analyses £13.7 billion deficit in Wales’ public finances. The results show that since the first such report in 2016, the gap between tax revenue and public spending has decreased in Wales, from £14.7bn, which is 24% of GDP, to the current figure of £13.7bn, which is 19.4% of GDP. This figure compares with a deficit of 2% of GDP for the UK as a whole. The report identifies how the tax base in Wales is different to the UK. Wales comprises 4.7% of the UK’s population but only generates 3.6% of UK tax revenues. Wales has a colossal deficit when simply comparing public spending in Wales with revenue raised in Wales. That's excluding HS2, Trident and the other UK projects you mentioned. This is the highlight for me: "In an international context, government spending per person for Wales is broadly in line with the average for developed countries, while total revenue per head in Wales is significantly lower than the average for developed countries." The people of Wales would be "significantly" worse off compared to those in other developed countries if it was alone. It's quite frightening to think just how bad it would get.

Just imagine if we went indy and lost the subsidy, all the UK government jobs AND our hopeless Senedd had to negotiate trade deals with every country, the EU, England too. Imagine life with a hard border at England, no passports, no DVLA, no armed forces but we'd still have to find the money to pay our share of Uk debt, to keep our schools, hospitals, prisons and police stations open. It's be a nightmare. If Westminster played hardball we may not even have a currency.

Sorry, but that’s way too simplistic. And the report from Cardiff University ignores the elephant in the room around corporation tax as well. There is no doubt in my mind that Wales would need a complete reset of public expenditure and revenues. One point in that Cardiff report is around VAT collection being higher than income taxes. Partly that’s a function of age of population, but partly due to VAT being allocated properly across the U.K. and other taxes not being so. Also if they moved, for example DVLA jobs to England, they’d equally move, again as an example, TV licensing or CRB / DBS jobs from Bristol and Liverpool respectively. Independence would be economically difficult, no doubt, and to be frank it won’t happen while the discourse is influenced by people with the mindset of Killy, but these financial summaries are not correct.

Whereas you on the other hand have the populist appeal of Johnson, coupled with the charisma of a young Barak Obama. They say its a gift to see yourself as others see you. You might want to think about that one. Too confident by half, some might say …..
