I've only known the odd person who will admit to losing money myself, I think people are too embarrassed to say. Gambling companies do make millions, I think 99 out of 100 people lose so I don't think it's odd that bookies win it should be expected, I think there is a case for gambling to be banned or if that is unworkable greatly restricted, don't Governments even run lotteries these days ?

Vegas is the classic one. No one loses big, everyone’s reckons they’re ‘up’ or have only lost $100. And we all stay in rooms that should cost $300 a night for $49.99 in the MGM or Bellagio, or Venetian, and get free drinks all night, and all you can eat for $20. Astonishing economics really. The issue with odds is that no one understands maths. Classic example is having a room of 35 people and seeing who will bet against two people sharing a birthday. Most bet against it as they think it’s something like a 10% chance of it happening. It’s actually close to 80% likely.

I wouldn't encourage people to bet, there are not many with the skill set and as you know the odds are stacked in the bookies favour. Im not having a dig at you only asking as I recall something about you drinking coke and being vegan (unless I've got you mixed up with someone else, apologies if that is the case) but are you ashamed of what you do ?, could you do something more useful for society than work for a bookie ?

Absolutely. I mean there are skill games there like poker for example, but much of that is only skill because people understand the maths behind it, and you beat other players as opposed to the casino (who take a % of the winning pot each time). But in terms of casino games, you can't really win. Although I'm sure Trampie once told me he is banned from casinos as he can beat the roulette odds by using one of the most basic staking plans known to man (Martingale)... which of course casinos stop by imposing table limits. The way to be up vs a casino, is if my mere happenstance you are up at some point, walk away never to return. The longer you play the more it becomes statistically and mathematically inevitable you give it back, and more. I am also a big fan of the birthday scenario, it amazes people. Good example of people not understanding how probability works.

Hey Lisa, our bookie friend didn't even know the difference between American and European/Australian roulette wheels, some expert hey, lol. I've never stayed in a Vegas hotel, I've visited there for a few hours while staying in Palm Springs (long drive), went from hotel to hotel doubling up and walked away with a load of cash, seedy place, nothing like the class of the palace in Monte Carlo it was a pleasure playing the tables there just to say I've been.

Why not? You would be encouraging them to win, they would only bet on your super duper Trampie bets. Of course I am not ashamed, its a wonderful profession with wonderful colleagues and a fantastic client base and atmosphere. The vast majority of clients are purely recreational and do it for entertainment, like paying for most sorts of fun people have. You pay 20 quid to watch a game of football and get nothing tangible back, someone may find pleasure in spending the same amount on backing something and being invested in the outcome for that length of time. Those that don't have control we spot the signs and escalate to Responsible Gambling departments who offer advice and support to the individual, we as an industry are marked against our ethical codes and how much we do to prevent it from becoming non recreational to people. No different to running a bar in that respect.

I very much did, it was me that explained it to you as you were bemused by the notion of different types of wheels. Once I told you, you pretended you told me and that you were some Casino banned jet setter

Vegas is fun. For a while. Just accept that you lose $100 a day or whatever and treat it as entertainment. Good shows, (saw Tom Jones there once which was great), lots to do, cheap places to eat and stay. Couple of days is enough. It’s convenient as a stopping point when traveling around that part of the States. Why did you go from hotel to hotel? Stop them chucking you out for winning too much…

Lisa. Ive travelled a bit bit never saw the point of Vegas. It is to me a hell hole. I dont gamble;hate it,not keen on 100 F heat, false palaces and hotels that look aesthetically grotesque. It certainly looks a good RV tour start point for the West and especially Lake Tahoe

Nope, it was me that told you. I was telling you that no matter what staking plan you use, you still cannot win. I explained it to you using the single zero, which of course is due to the fact you are in Europe. You disagreed with no explanation (largely because you didn't understand again). I went on to explain it again, slower, but this time also explained that there were two versions of the game and odds were more stacked against you in the States because of the double zero. You wanted to deflect from the maths proving that you were lying so pretending I didn't know about the double zero in the States, for whatever reason. Much like the deflecting you are doing now of course

Depends what it was you wanted to do Tramps. What are you good at, there is marketing departments? Advertising? Promotions? But if you are looking to getting into the odds side of the business then I wouldn't take it to heart. A bit like someone with two left feet being offended he wouldn't be able to become a professional footballer. Different strokes, different folks.
