Sinister. At least he didnt pretend he was going for the ball

He said he was going for the ball to take a quick free kick and Manning kicked it away

Poll: Should the summer transfer window close before the season starts?

Manning did kick the ball away. Yellow card offence,

Yeah, he kicked the ball away which warrants a yellow, but, it's the inconsistencies that annoys me, kicking the ball away, picking the ball up and walking away with it or throwing it over the head of the taker, standing in front of the ball, all tactics to slow the free kick being taken quickly or to run the clock down, and should all be yellow cards, but very rarely booked, either stop quick free kicks and play to the whistle, or book more players and try and stamp it out, same goes for surrounding the Ref, the law is there but for some reason they don't use it.

This is why Grimes shouldn't be the Captain, it's all very well being a calming influence but when things like this happen he needs to be in the refs face, Ayew would have been straight there giving the ref a earful!

Grimes is too passive to be Captain.

Completely agree, Catallus.

Straight red, clearly. Lansbury is a well-known problem, how the ref could give him any leeway on that is ridiculous. He did the exact same thing earlier in the game when Downes was fouled and on the ground and, fair play, Downes got right up and in his face. Predictably, Lansbury slinked away and Grimes stepped in to “defuse” the situation. No bite, no passion.

The foul on Manning was another level, though, literally could’ve broken Manning’s ankle and Grimes should have been livid, in the ref’s face, screaming to put pressure on him. All the best captains do, it’s one of the biggest ways to make these decisions get made.

Several clear penalties we should have been awarded in recent games, opposition given soft calls like the penalty this weekend, so many 50-50 decisions go against us, this idiot taking target practice at Manning’s ankle. I know Grimes is a nice guy and introverted, but he seriously needs to understand his role, step up and realise he’s got to be a true leader on the pitch. That includes growing a pair and not being the nice guy all the time.

Having said that, I imagine he won’t be captain if he is still here next year, but Martin can’t just take it off him mid-season either. Stuck with him wearing the armband for the time being, so he’s really got to get some cojones or we’re going to continue to have this kind of thing happen with no repercussions.

If you have played at any level then you know exactly what is going on here.

Manning trying to slow things down by walking across the line of the free kick. Lansbury knowing he was going to do that and using the ball being there as an excuse to boot him and claim he was trying to take his free kick.

Similar sort of thing as smashing a free kick at someone as hard as you can because they won’t retreat 10 yards then claiming he was in the way of your measured defence splitting free kick pass.

Yellow Manning.

Red for the idiot.

“If you have played at any level then you know exactly what is going on here.”

Lol, bueno.

Don’t kid yourself, you don’t even know what a rondo is chap.

You’ve never “played at any level” and you know that.

Transparently a troll, though.

Straight red all day, that said, many a game have been ruined with a side down to 10 men, we might not have managed our fantastic come back if they went down to 10 with a 3 goal lead, one of their strikers coming off for a more defensive minded player could have killed the game there and then, the ref had a mare but could have done us a favour.

Good point, Swan Si, the idiot definitely did us a favour in that regard.

Hopefully fired us up a bit too.
